Hi, I'm trying to determine the best way to darken the front sight on my OM Ruger Super Blackhawk. I find that the front sight picks up to much glare and washes out, looking white/silver. I've tried florescent red, orange, and yellow in the past. None of these worked as well as anticipated. I've decided a black front site is best for me, but am not sure of the best method to achieve this. The sight is currently the original factory blue. Thanks for any advice shared.

Magic Marker, black.

My new S&W M29 in 1988 came with a "red ramp" front sight. Couldn't stand it: it was just a blurry red fuzz while trying to shoot Silhouette. I tried "sight black", but it would never last. Magic Marker for the win.

It may be permanent, not sure, so be careful.

You can do what competition shooters used to do. Get a miners carbide lamp and coat the front sight with the soot from the carbide burning (acetylene). It is a FLAT, FLAT black.

I still have my lamp and a container of carbide - maybe I'll pull it out and play with it a bit this week.
Yep. We used smudge pots in the Corps. Trouble is it's temporary so must be refreshed often.

Thanks everyone! I'm going to try either the Testors Model Paint or the Flat Black Spray Paint.
