On the Border
I snagged a GP100 3" (fixed sights) recently that is barely used and everything is perfect except that it shoots 2" to 3" right at 10 yds. with everything. To be sure I let my shooting partner shoot it as well and he is a 32 yr. LEO champion PPC shooter and ditto....same results. Obviously, the barrel has to be "unscrewed" a hair to regulate. I was always of the belief that you can TIGHTEN a barrel a hair to regulate (seen it done on several Colt SAA's) but to that you cannot loosen and need to take off the barrel, machine off enough for another turn minus the crush fit & sight adjustment when the fixed sight gun shoots right.

I would imagine that Ruger would not even mess with machining off a thread but rather mount a new barrel and start from scratch. I would assume that I would have to pay shipping to them since the gun is used but that they probably would fix the POA for free if indeed they determine it to be their mounting error.

What sayeth the sages? :?

If I was going to turn a crush-fit barrel I think I would rather loosen it a little than to try and tighten it some more. But I don't really have a clue. Good luck with whatever you decide to do. Would you let us know? :D

Never know Boge, if it only "needs" a 'nudge',, just may back off, BUT, if it comes "loose," then you gotta go ahead and go the extra thread and recut it all...won't know till you do it..............

I bet Ruger would fix it for free, especially if you provided test targets.

I called Ruger for a similar problem, yes they would fix it, probably n/c, they said, but you have to send it to them and pay to have it sent back.

I'd pull the bbl., clean things up, add a drop of lock-tite and then install the barrel and carefully "sneak up" on that proper front sight angle.........

If the barrel and front site are dead on at 12 o'clock then you may be able to take enough off the "left" side of the front sight to move the "hits" to the left where you need them. When I thin a front sight, I usually use some type of "day-glo" paint to enhance seeing the front sight better. There's only so much tweeking you can do on the barrel because of the ejector rod and it's cutout. If it's "skewed" too much, then I would let Ruger "fix" it!.......................Dick

My fix, depending on the amount it is off, would be a different front sight blade modified a bit to pull to the proper direction via thinning

Another fix gunsmiths use is a spacer/washer. They can get them in different thicknesses and will pull the barrel and put the proper spacer in.
