As I sit on the lazy boy with GMA's Chiweenie on my lap after the Derby, I realize I'd rather converse about smoking, drinking, over eating, or overindulging in anything, than converse about actual after action results. Most folks comprehend Bad Habits, but many without experience tend to quibble over actual after action results. Which do y'all care to converse about?

Hit me with what's on yer mind. I am versed in several bad habits categories.

But it sounds like we could both shed a bad light on ourselves if we told too many tales. Maybe best to acknowledge some of them without the gory details.

So now that the proprieties are in order. Many folks tell you to train

Having a little run into trouble problems posting right now. Hope this ends.
You know all those folks that tell you to train until your proficient? Yet there is no actual proficiency during your first terminal encounter. The shotgun like pattern you actually perform isn't close to the thousands of perfect scores you have placed on targets during your time on the one way range. Yet how many drinks you have had, and what you have done in drunken stupors are far easier for folks to comprehend. Thousands of crossings of the Bridge in PI don't raise an eyebrow. Yet an EKIA or Righteous Shoot gets bashed by every keyboard commando that hasn't even qualified on a one way range. Some folks get told what they have to carry, others get to chose freely. Why do those that can chose pick so poorly?

But I've skipped a bit. We all begin with a 22 or equivalent to learn to overcome our Bad Habits shooting on a one way range. Then we actually pick up a service firearm and learn to overcome the new bad habits we aquire to be able to shoot it like we did proficiently on the one way range like we did the 22. Then when push comes to shove in an actual encounter, every bad habit we ever had reappears and gets even worse. Bad Habits and Murphys Law always seem to prevail during actual encounters?

I find myself arguing with my rubber chicken late at night. It is his cranky attitude about everything that is annoying. I even bought him some new bungee cords and plastic wrap. It did not help. I am starting to think he is a Democrat.

Why do you say they pick poorly?
How many threads are written about the lethality of the 22, why folks select revolvers over mag feed semis, some folks even carry S/A 5-6 shot revolvers. Like if they actually can score a single hit under distress with six rounds. Yup most gunfights are over with less than six rounds expended, but how many times does the Hero win?

I don't believe we can get actual statistics on how often the good guy wins. For my own reasons I choose to carry a centerfire semi-auto. Some people that have trained long & hard with revolvers might feel that it would take too long to regain the level of proficiency they already have to start over with a semi. Some people are more concerned about ease of concealment. It isn't like I haven't made any concessions to try to make carrying less obvious. Everyone makes their own choices. I honestly don't get to shoot as often as I would like. Work & family tends to get in the way. That is a problem too.
I would say any gun is better than no gun although I do try to choose well.

So is it a bad habit to hold on to things past in order to save training time? To be proficient with a wheel gun takes just as many practice hours a week as it does to be proficient with a semiautomatic. If your going to spend the time training why not spend it with the most modern equipment? I do have to admit that in my youth wheel guns ruled. But they are a bad habit that doesn't get as much use as it once did. But that's just switching BAD HABITS like mixing a martini instead of a Manhattan? Or firing up a Connecticut wrapper instead of a Maduro. 😄

Or using a Zippo instead of butane for the light. YUK!

Now for another BAD HABIT. Until recently I kept selecting Wonder Nines with extra long barrels. 5 inch +. Wanted the extra velocity that those Gold Dot +p's provided. Guess it's a holdover from Magnum Revolver shooting? Or maybe it was just mistrust of the 9 mm since I began as a .45 ACP Semiautomatic fan. Yet as I sit in the Lazy boy I'm surrounded by .45 ACP Semiautomatics? Guess that's another BAD HABIT? 🤔

JMHO, but the .45 ACP on a good 1911, 1911A1 or Combat Commander is never a bad habit.

Yup, the 1911's are in all the bedrooms. But somehow beside the Lazy Boy sits a Glock 21SF with two extra mags and redone Night Fission tritium sights. Not only have I gotten the BAD Habit of not trusting my vision, now I have enough rounds to hand that I can rest on a pile of spent cases. I've only got two Glocks, but they helped me develop more Bad Habits than I had in the past. 😄 it even sits in the kydex holster attached to the furniture in condition 3 (Israeli Carry) bet some folks think that's a BAD HABIT!

I actually recently dug a zippo back out. I've been using it the last couple of months. Oops, I guess I just told on myself. I gave up the booze & other related stuff years ago but I still smoke cigarettes. That & caffeine are pretty much my last two addictions. I try to keep my coffee consumption reasonable.

And you didn't replace them with sex? I'm so disappointed.

Well as a young sailor, if you can't be with the one you love, love the one your with. BAD HABITS?

bad habits? wife says i pull nose hairs out all the time.
now that im old, its ear hairs too.
She ain't pulling them for you? Perhaps she ain't the one you should ride the river with? 🤧🤔
But I'm known for having BAD HABITS. 🤔

Used to have the Bad Habit of shaking after conflict. Nowadays my front sight shakes so much it looks like a dog pooping razorblades. Yet during a post describing an after action report all the tremors stopped, that was until I posted. Then it was like after conflict again. Oh well, perhaps another Bourbon to steady up?

Shaking after an adrenaline dump (conflict) isn't a Bad Habit, it's basic biology - all mammals do it.

Bourbon is a Band-Aid, as a great man once said: Alcohol wasn't the problem, it was an attempt at dealing with the problem. Re-experiencing stress from an event well after the fact suggests some sessions with a Talk Doctor (CBT type) may be in order. Recognizing the Why's goes a long way toward settling everything. YMMV...
