Are ALL guns going up in value?

I guess this is probably a silly question. The cost of living keeps going up, so it makes sense that all guns are more than likely going up in prices also.

I just find myself with several guns that are similar enough, it doesn’t make sense to shoot all of them. So I’m thinking of putting them back in the box, unfired, in the far reaches of the safe.

The gun in question is a Smith and Wesson M&P 2.0 with a ported barrel. Before shooting it I bought another, non-ported barrel.

From what I have seen, they sure are going up!!
The only gun purchases I have made in the last five years are from a friend who needed the money..
Now.. I did NOT rip him off.. I simply asked him what he wanted... (What he wanted was whiskey.. but that is another story..)
Sometimes it took many months of payments before I took delivery..
The funny part is, they are all willed to me in his will anyhow... But.. he needed the cash to get him through until his next SSI check....
Still..it seems the only guns that are even remotely affordable are the semi-automatic pistols with poly frames... (at least for me)...

I believe that is safe to say that most all firearms have risen in price in the last few years. During that time there was a rush to purchase by new buyers as well as the regular buyers. The laws of supply and demand moved the cost needle for guns and related products higher as shortages developed. Quality revolvers seem to have gained in price more than most other handguns. Recently, the market has shown some softening but, I don’t think that we will see prices drop to levels of 4 or 5 years ago.

That's generally true, but is also somewhat regional. What I pay for a gun here in MS, I guarantee is less than what the same gun would cost in NY, CA, etc. even figuring in comparative inflation.

Some guns are still going up a little. Over all, I think the prices have finally leveled off. It's the old supply and demand thing. Supply is catching up with demand. Now it's time to bring in revolvers and get caught up on demand with those. The extra demand was from new buyers. People that haven't owned guns, and now because democrats have let so much crime get out of hand, letting people out of jail, for no reason, can't blame people who never considered a gun as necessary, because crime was under control, BLM and Antifa, changed all that. Many of those people came straight from prison, under the FAKE "Covid Danger". There was no covid danger, just a bunch of criminal bums, put out on the street to do the bidding of the dems. I'm actually surprised it's caught up so quick.

Yep, majority are up in price. But there’s still values out there.

I think any firearms that might be more of a 'commodity' could be a possible exception to the general upward trend. Picture AR15s and maybe 1911s - they're produced by multiple manufacturers, costs have generally come down as production volume has increased, and prices may therefore be controlled more by pure supply and demand. ARs got pricey after the 'Wuhanic Plague' hit, and stayed high after the gun-grabber moved into the White House, but I think prices have come down some since the panic buying eased off, and may drop further as the market (once again) approaches saturation. Obviously, that can all change overnight if the folks currently controlling Congress pass another gun or magazine ban.

IMHO, FWIW, YMMV, etc., etc.

I am not an expert, but from what I have seen and read, some have actually gone down. I have one of the old Ruger LCP .380s that I paid $330 for new. Seems it is worth way less than that now. I also have one of the first series of S&W M&P 9mms. That one is also worth less than the $500+ I paid for it new. Now, I haven't checked lately, but this was the case a couple of months ago.

Steel ones worth more, plastic ones worth less it seems.

Awesome! Thanks for all the replies. Ya’ll are correct too.

Reuben, yep, the only affordable guns are the poly framed 9mm’s.

Jdavis: yes, you are correct about quality revolvers going up in price too. I wanted a Kimber revolver, but they went up a lot this year. Perhaps I’ll sneak one in under the Christmas tree…

Ok! Thanks, the one pistol is going to be mothballed for a while.

If we get a Republican President in '24 firearms prices will most likely drop. That is what happened when Trump was elected. Swing of the pendulum. I actually like poly framed striker fired guns but I wouldn't really expect one to go up in value.

It has seemed to me lately that the market has turned soft and it
is a buyers' market now. I tried to sell a few things on a local forum about two months ago that I thought were decent deals but had no takers. I feel pretty sure that I waited too long. Back when everybody had their stimmy checks I am confident they would have sold easily.

Quality firearms,, that are not easily found, or maybe no longer produced are up in value.
There are currently manufactured firearms that are actually very affordable, (when compared to other guns,) to actually see a lower expense for good quality.
Looking at the Ruger line,, the LCP, the Wrangler, the Max 9, all are very affordable,, yet are good quality.
Just like many things,, quality, and demands keep the prices AND values up there.

I sold a .357 Vaquero with birdshead grip a few months ago for $1500 on GB. I think I bought it two years earlier for arounf $730. I think quality steel revolvers will continue to go up in value. Plastic pistols ( I have quite a few) not so much.

I just traded my 10mm Hi Point Yeet Cannon (whatever that means) and a 9mm Ruger for a S&W Equalizer (9mm) because I need the easier racking slide. Best trade I made lately. However a couple of months ago I purchased a North American Arms Ranger at the outrageous price of $700 from Buds. They really cheated me on it as they repriced it the day after I bought it for $615. However, either of those prices was $200 more than in 2021. So, yes the prices of some guns have really gone up. I purchased 2 KelTec guns for VERY reasonable prices just a few weeks ago, so some bargains are still there.

If you watch GB, and jus watch the guns that SELL. Be sure to add shipping, tax, and FFL transfer fees to get total selling price. Generic AR’s, generic 1911’s, Police model Glocks (17-19-22’s) have came down in value. Python’s hav leveled off or dropped a lil. Good Smith’s still comn up. Good 29-2 in Presentation bx will fetch N of $2k. Good old Remingtons goin up as well. I think Sako’s are still a good buy for what they are. But I am a Sako slut too ☺️☺️

Post COVID prices are considerably higher than pre COVID prices.
