So, tomorrow I will probably run to the gun club and try out this new CMMG conversion kit for my AR-15... anybody had any experience with one of these critters and how accurate or inaccurate they are shooting through a .223 barrel?

If you're talking about a bolt/chamber conversion unit that uses the AR barrel, not a dedicated .22LR barrel, you can expect about "plinking grade" accuracy.

I have a GI M261 unti and have run it in three different 1:12 barrels and one 1:9 5.56/.223 barrels. To put it in numbers, if you can find some kind of ammo that will stay inside one inch at 25 yards in your gun, you will be doing pretty well. If you can consistently beat 3/4" at 25 you are doing VERY well. Anything better than these numbers is pure gravy.

By comparison, I have few .22 rifles that won't easily stay inside a half-inch at 25, including both my 10/22s (factory stock mechanicals).

Barrel twist rate will play a part also as well as ammo type. I have used a conversion in both a 1/9 and a 1/7. They both shot okay for drills and PCC matches in my rifles.

Older 1/16 twist are said to be better but I have not tried them.

It all depends on what you want to do and what you expect.

I realized after I posted that the high temp. today is supposed to be maybe about 39 and I also have to go to the dentist this afternoon... so, I'm pretty sure running to the range today won't happen... maybe tomorrow or Thursday...

what I'm probably going to do when I do go is take both my ARs and see if one shoots better than the other in 22lr. The one I've put the conversion bolt in has never shot that well... even though I have not shot it that much... it is supposed to have somekind of target barrel... on it but in my experience shoots worse than any of my minis.... then again my off the rack AR doesn't shoot any better than my 'good' mini-14.

both my target 10/22s will do 1/2" at 25 yards if shooting from a rest and the right ammo... in fact one will do that easy at 50 yards with the right ammo in the right weather.

Since a suppressor is on the way... 4-7 months from now... I'm thinking about getting a new 22lr barrel for one of the ARs with a threaded end for the suppressor.

Finally made it Thursday afternoon...

Wow! the dern thing actually works.... funny thing is my AR-15 with the bull target barrel that shoots like crap in .223 actually shot better with the CMMG converter than my DPMS AR...

I ended up having to use the 50ft pistol range because other folks were at the 25 yard and 50 yard lines...

best ammo was a toss up between Federal bulk stuff and CCI green stuff (expensive) CCI mini mags were close though. Had about 3 fail to fires out of 140 rounds fired and I think two of those were the cheap winchester stuff.

still at 50ft the best groups were about 1.5"... so those rounds were wobbling pretty good. this was shooting from a rest.
