Any Ugly guns ?

Ribbed that I don't own any Ugly guns. I actually really like to find UGLY, for parts, projects, builds, or even resurrection.
This picture is from the Original Poster, he was going to cut the barrel, and asked for opinions. I offered to buy it AS IS.

I have this picture after seller tried to fix the Herretts.

A good cleaning in & out, a little massage, Stainless Old Army Gripframe w/ Stainless Wide Trigger and some EBay/ Eagle grips and she is a well used gem,,, shoots good too.

Bought this here on the RF. The last ~1" of the bore was rotted out, Cylinder gas ring missing, and all the rest in the picture missing.

Some chop, cut, (5.5") massage, BGF, Stags, and this one is close to being done. Working on turning this one Brown.

To me, neither "before" picture was ugly. Needing a bit of TLC and parts perhaps, but not ugly.

Just needs some love. I’ve taken worse hammers and removed the rust discoloration and then either matched the factory look with sandpaper or mirror polished them.

I mistook the darker reflections of the jeweling for rust darkening.

You should be able to easily fix that with some emery cloth. Just stay away from the area that the hammer and trigger pivot on.

This is one that was badly stained. Emery cloth and a short time on the buffing wheel.

Some revolvers are ugly because of neglect. But there are a few that are ugly from the git-go, even when brand new.

The ugly guns that pop into my mind are those German made Herter's revolvers. Somehow, to me, the lines are just all wrong.

And the doube action S&W top breaksfrom the 1880s with their gosh-awful trigger guards. An those M1902 Colt double action revolvers withn the elongated trigger and trigger guard.

Both old Sam Colt and Bill Ruger understood that a fine revolver's acceptance was enhanced by clean, flowing lines.

This one was definitely ugly when I got it, I posted a few thread's about the restoration process but haven't updated since I finished it. The last stage was getting more of the pitting out, replacing the cylinder, polish with 1000 grit and a once over with a gray 3m pad for the factory brushed look. It went from this

I'm hoping to find a true 3 inch Speed Six that needs a little tlc next. Maybe not as much as work as this one did but I know when a beater pops up it can normally be had for much less a pristine example with box and papers. If any of you guys come across a beat up 3 inch definitely let me know.

It's still not 100%, still has a few minor pits and blemishes but it's definitely in better shape than it was. Took me about 6 months of working on and off to get it there. I'm happy with the result, especially for a carry gun.

The site I got it from said it came from a police auction, I have a theory of how it got so bad but I don't have any proof. It was made in 1985, the front sight was broke off so my guess is someone dropped it and whatever department either forgot about it or they switched to Beretta 92s and didn't bother to have it serviced. From there it probably sat neglected in their armory until they decided to do some spring cleaning a few years ago. It appeared to be unfired when I got it too, not a hint of fouling anywhere and it was perfect internally. How does an unfired gun get neglected to that point and end up in a police auction years later? I really couldn't come up with another theory that made sense to me.
