Chainsaws are like firearms-no single saw is correct for every job.

They do have their limitations, they're certainly not replacing the big saws in the woods or cutting large amounts of firewood.Maybe around the house a battery saw would be useful. not for the size and amount of wood I cut. I have used battery saws and they do have their uses. I had to clean up some small trees in a neighborhood and didn't want to disturb people with the noise so it worked well enough for that
not sure if I qualify as a chainsaw nut but run a few saws for firewood, fenceline clearing, land maintenance, etc. around the farm.
I'd check the clunk and line in that poulon fuel tank. by design it flops around so it's always sitting in gas regardless if saw position. fuel lines can get stiff with age and hang up out of the fuel or crack from dry rot and suck air in certain saw positions. quick check if empty is look inside to see if line is soft and flexible, another easy check is top the tank off cap full and rotate the saw around see it it still stalls.
next would be check the diaphragm and spring check in the carb. unlike a lawn mower needle/seat, saw carbs use a spring/diaphragm to keep fuel bowl full in all positions and they are finicky about leaks. dry rotted rubber parts and paper gaskets etc. can give a saw a hard time. if the saw otherwise has potential for use, I would make the best attempt at rebuilding the carb and fuel delivery and go from there.
good luck!
a couple gratuitous pitchers.. how does a chainsaw thread get this far without any?
polesaw turned out to be downright handy!

Echo is the only gas saw I would have besides Stihl and Huskvarna. After one of the hurricanes we has a tree about 14 inches in diameter go down. Florida slash pine. Burned up one electric saw cutting it down and wore pout a Poulin. My son bought a craftsman. {FIL worked for Sears and got them to save one for him and he got the discount. Finished up the tree. Later got an Echo 326 and it really handled everything (Took down eight pines with some kind of beetle infestation and cut them up). It didn survive some kids drug habit and disappeared one night. I also have a little one handed on with about a 8 in chain. I like it better than loppers. The chains are crazy, almost as much as the whole say when bought on sale.
