Anschutz Serial Numbers

Looking for serial number range help on finding info on when the "Varmint-Target Model 64P" were produced.

Was thinking and there was a 64 LP, it was described as a Varmint & Target, but was a pistol like the Exemplar that was based on the 64 action for 22 LR and 17 HMR. The 22 Exemplars had wood stocks, while the 17's and the LP had a plastic stock molded in the same shape as the wooden one, and the LP was supplied drilled and tapped for scope mounts, but it did not have the iron sights that came standard on the Exemplars.

Could it be you have a pistol that may have had the action re-barreled as a rifle? Didn't mention if it was a rifle or pistol.

The 64 LP's were imported by Champion Shooters Supply in 2004.

After looking at the links you provided, I got the gun out and the manual that came with it reads "Varmint-Target", Pistol Mod. 64P, cal. .22 L.R. but my gun has EXEMPLAR on top of the barrel, serial #1328690P . It has the walnut stock.

This makes it simple, my pistol is marked "IH" on the barrel just in front of the receiver, making it a 1987 model.


Since 1960, or thereabout, Anschutz have included among the proof marks on the barrel a date code for the year of proof.

From c. 1960 to c. 1976 the last two digits of the year were used. so a 1970 rifle will have 70 stamped on the barrel.

Since about 1976 a letter code has been used to indicate the last two digits of the year of proof. A=0, B=1, C=2, D=3, E=4, F=5, G=6, H=7, I=8, K=9. J is not used.

If you have one of the earlier ones, it will have a M3 set screw thru the trigger that adjusts overtravel, the one on the side sets 2nd stage.

If it is a later model, have bought a trigger off E-bay, (it is pre-driled actually cast) and all you have to do is tap it M3.

A company called J&P Products sells trigger springs for these and DIP Products does a great pictatinny scope mounts. With the trigger springs you can end up with an incredible trigger in a pistol!

They are as accurate as any Anschutz rifle (64 series).

Yours should have the silhouette rear sight on it if early.

The manual for the 1403/1403D/1403 REP/64MS dated 3/1985 covers the trigger adjustment. This is the trigger that came in the 64MS silhouette rifle and is pretty good. The over-travel screw actually has some impact on sear adjustment as well. With the replacement springs from J&P plus some tuning, you can get an incredible 2 stage trigger.

Anschutz USA just did a special run of 100 of these with a 14" barrel and they are going for $1,098 on Gunbroker. The sights are not nearly as nice as those on the old pistols.

Yes that is the trigger (Two Stage) on my pistol! I'll try to take some pictures today.

I have one with s.n. 1338052P, stamp on bbl. is II with some markings on either side I can,t make out. It has walnut stock and is a left hand bolt with ten inch bbl.

Mine is #1328690P, directly in front of the receiver on the barrel should be 2 letters in front of what is called "The Half-Rack" proof mark, it looks like a Fallow Deer shed.
