Another 30 carbine find

Was in my favorate fun shop today & found another Blackhawk in .30 carbine. This one is from 1984 and had the yellow box. looks to be fired very little if at all. excellent condition considering its age.

I say another one because I sold my last two ( yea..I'm a dumbass!) Going to try to hold on to this one.

I always liked the 30 Carbine in Blackhawks. Glad Ruger has kept it around all these years.

Yeah these were cool back in the day when there was surplus ammo to be had. Ear-splitters, and a bit of muzzle blast!

Cheaper Than Dirt has some ammo for that . . . but it ain't "cheaper than dirt" anymore.

Souds like some of you are fond of the .30 carbine. I am interested in your thoughts on that caliber. I think that is the only caliber that I don't own in old model Blackhawk. Give me a good reason to buy one. Twist my arm. BTW, I shootem all and reload them all. Just happen to have a set of .30 carbine carbide dies an old fella gave me.

Well, gee, "just because" has always worked for me.

Seriously, with full-tilt-boogie ammo they are impressively flashy and LOUD . . . always get a double-take at the range.

Mine is quite accurate, and is a lot of fun to shoot, with surprisingly little recoil.

And it can be reloaded quite easily.

And it's a Ruger.

And they don't make old models anymore,and they are Very fun and accurate and if you get a new model (get both) you can shoot 32-20 out of it.
The cylinders are tight so its best to reload this round.

Gary Reeder can do a simple cylinder rechamber and make your 30 Carbine Blackhawk a 300 GNR. Looks kind of like a 30 Herrett. He has dies and loading data too!

I have 2 both new models. One I cut back to 4 5/8". Both are great shooters and a lot of fun. I have most rugers that come in the 4 5/8" and that's my favorite bbl length. Ruger doesn't offer the 30 carbine in that length so I made my own. Now when I go out to shoot the short one is the one I prefer and it gets shot a lot more than the longer one. I reload for mine and with my loads it is a fine little gun. I would have no problem using it for deer where I hunt because the range would be under 50 yds and it would be plenty powerful enough at that range to kill a deer cleanly.

Oh, no, I don't have any hot leads on surplus 30 Carbine ammo. Wish I did!

I found some in a gun shop three or four years ago--I don't know where they got it--but I bought a couple boxes. Looks like it's from 1953.

Since introduction of the NM in mid-1973, their average production is slightly over 1100/year. In the last ten years, they're averaging well under 500 per year.

I'm glad they're around, but why is certainly a mystery to me.

They have traditionally been the cheapest NM Blackhawk in the display case around here... I wanted the OM brass GF 30 that Ruger never made. I made my own!

Beautiful gun Axe.
First impression of the 30 carbine was it was the most accurate hand gun I had ever shot. Have had a few over the years but they seem to get sold. Boxed om in the safe now is going to stay put. Grab it while you have the chance you won't be disappointed.

I have always wished Ruger would offer .30 carbine in a shorter barrel. I never thought about having one cut down. I guess I'll have to keep an eye out for another one!

My 45LC convertible in 4 5/8 is my favorite handling Blackhawk. My stainless 44 Spl in the same length is a close second.

I picked up one in 32H&R mag last year. It is casehardened with a blue barrel and the birds head grip; another fun gun.

Recently bought a GP100 in 327 fed mag but haven't had a chance to shoot it yet.

Just need to fine a 41 and my collection will be complete.

OK maybe not complete!!

Is that stuff French? I bought a carbine years ago taht came with boxes of Universal commercial and French surplus ammo, 1953 headstamp. About one in eight rounds of the French stuff was a dud, and I later read that the (Boxer) primers were corrosive.
