I bought this MK-II comp. target a couple of years ago and just this summer I put a 4X Leupold EER scope on it.

I have shot it a little over the summer and have done pretty well with it at 50 yards. I get what I think are good groups most of the time. My biggest problem is EYE FATIGUE!!
I can shoot good for a couple of targets them my eyes get strained and then I get targets like #4,5,&6. Targets from 1 to 6 were shot with CCI mini mag hollow points. Targets 7,8,&9 were shot with Winchester Power Points- the first box with the star on it.

What can I expect at 50 yards with this gun? I think a 6X EER scope that has parallex adjustable objective on it will help me too. I believe the eye fatigue comes from a combination of parallex not being set at 50 yards and MY OLD EYES!
I am wanting to hear from any of you with 50 yards or more experiances with your Ruger 22 pistols.

Target #8 has 6 shots at it. I pulled the one off to the lower right. So I put another shot in there.

Thanks, John

Might be a scope focus problem, or your old eyes, but incorrect parallax adjustment won't cause eye strain. It will cause your groups to open, however.

I have one that will do one ragged hole at 25 yds with a 2x6 Bushnell Trophy scope set on 6x. I have no doubt it will do an inch at 50 yds. I used simple Winchester Power Points. The scope on 6x wore my eyes out though.

You're Leupold 4x ought to get the job done if you adjust it for the best clarity at 50 yds. Many don't bother though.

My scope is focused. It is my eyes, I get the same thing with my 22 target rifles.

How is it that these little handguns outshoot the 10/22's?

They are more stable shooting platforms than a stock 10/22.

My MKII Comp Target shoots very well at 50 yds with good ammo. I use different optics,, and red dots with mine. Find an optic YOUR eyes will work with the best. The gun will do just fine.

They can do much better than the groups you posted. Try some standard velocity or target ammo. A good solid shooting position is required, I use a bunny eared sandbag. Your groups are not bad but there is more performance yet.

Thanx, Russ

Try some sub-sonic ammo, as "russ69" mentions. My MKII shoots in Master class in Bullseye, and does it with CCI Standard Velocity rounds (good luck finding them...), or Eley Target ammo.

The idea for accuracy is to keep the rounds sub-sonic, so that they don't have to reach super-sonic (>1100 fps), and then cross that barrier back down again, before reaching the target. Crossing that sonic barrier is a bit turbulent to the bullet. Keep 'em subsonic, and you'll have some eye-opening small targets.

For my MKII and Bullseye competition, CCI Std Velocity, Eley Target, and some other select ammo, yeilds some serious competitive results. Federal HV Match doesn't really shoot that well. And, Remington Sub-sonic loads shoot quite well, but have too many "dud" loads to be compeitive in Bullseye shooting.

With sandbags (assuming right-hand shooting), place your left hand on the sangbags AND your left pointer finger on top of the scope. This will stabilize your gun quite nicely, even if it has a rough trigger sear engagement. Make sure the crosshairs are exactly in the center of the field of view on the scope. Parallax can move your shots a long ways off center.

My Mark III Comp is the same pistol with some added redundant safety features and with an NCStar cheap ass 2.5 power scope I can group then less than an inch with copper plated Federal HPs.
The Mark IIs and IIIs are way more accurate than I can ever be.

You should be getting much better results with that pistol. I shoot bullseye with mine and use CCI sub-sonic or standard velocity. It will shoot outstanding targets with high velocity but I never use them. I got surprising results with American Eagle 38 gr but don't use them for bullseye. If you want good results, try several brands of standard velocity and see what it likes best.

IMO, you should be capable of shooting much better groups than what you posted here on this forum.

Practice, practice, practice.

Come back to us all here after you have shot 2000 rounds of target .22 LR cartridges thru your target handgun.

That's a question that can provide a lot of misleading answers. How good can they shoot at 50 yards? Well that could mean, what's the best group you ever shot, what's an average group, what's a typical group. And it varies so much with ammo, set up and shooter. Anyhow mine averages 1.06" at 50 yards with CCI target ammo.
