So when you have one shot to stop the THREAT, does recoil actually effect the first round expended?

Does recoil effect your first shot in an adrenaline filled life or death situation? Can you realistically expect a water pistol to perform better than a hand cannon on placement from your first round?

I don't know how many times I have heard that a well placed 22 is. better than a miss with a 44 Mag. 🤧

Guess what, if you missed with the first round of a hand cannon, you also missed with a water pistol.

Recoil, it only becomes a factor once you missed completely! 🤔

Okay, bring it don't sing it. Thanks.

Recoil should be considered in a totally different way when connected to a SD handgun. Far too many users can't/don't/won't realize that SD use is/may be completely different than standing at the line and shooting on a range.
For me and in my current physical condition, 38SP and 9MM are the limit I feel comfortable using for SD. Either hand, any position, under stress, and/or physically injured--these are the factors that should be considered.
That 'krackenboomer XXX magnum' that shoves you back two steps when used on the range isn't much good when you're lying on your back with some crackhead kicking the stuffing out of you.

Growing up out in the country my buddies and I often did some shooting... one of the things I would notice is they were pretty accurate with the first shot but not the next ones.....
Bill Drill. Modify for various positions you might find yourself in - seated & buckled up in your car, etc.

and, where/how do you carry in your car "buckled" in.... is that seatbelt across your weapon, making extraction a potential shot in your femoral artery . . . . 🫨

It can be done; several holster makers offer models which avoids this problem. Many also mount a holster to the dash or console to carry their pistol in while driving. Look for Andrews Leather's 'Carjacker' holster:

I have one on my hip for walking around. Another one in the cup holder for driving around which is secreted if I exit the car - or sometimes I'll take it with me. As has been said from time to time: "2 is 1, & 1 is none". :)

Not the one you directed that at, but myself...I remove the gun from my belt and set it on the seat next to me when I drive.

I have to tell this about the car thing:

the last force on force class I took one of the scenarios was you are in a small pickup truck buckled in waiting at a red light with your widow down and a guy comes up with a knife and attacks you through the window.... there was a young woman taking the class and when we reviewed the film later of what she did it was amazing.... the bad guy got to the window and started to reach in with the knife and she kicked him square in the chest with both feet out through the window... he then fell back...came at her again and then she put three rounds in his chest....

How you deal with this kind of attack, largely depends on the vehicle design. What this young woman did would not be possible in many cars due to interior obstructions such as large center consoles, your own physical capabilities, etc. Riding around in town with the window down is probably not a good idea.

My point is that how you might deal with such an event will require some thoughtful planning, preparation, and practice. There's no "one size fits all". :)

No guns involved but your story reminds me of being a kid visiting relatives. A young couple a short distance from my grandmother's had a disagreement. She wanted to leave. He tried to make her stay. She did pretty much what the girl in your class did. If I remember right by the time she left he had taken a pretty good beating. It went back & forth a few times before she made it out of there. She was a pretty little thing.
