The Springfield XDS....Almost clueless about this gun,Want info and opinions?

Help Support Ruger Forum:

I have a 9mm and a 40 -- both are very accurate and dependable, and do not seem at all ammo-sensitive. The 40 is particularly reassuring when I am carrying it hiking. They are around half a pound heavier than the current generation of 9mm's, but they are solid and mine have not been finicky at all.

FWIW, I never shot the XD series well. My S I L had two, 9mm and 40 S&W. I think they are well made but just not for me.
I had a XD-40 4". I liked it a lot for a while but my neighbor messed it up. We had been hunting & were about to leave the woods. At the time I was carrying my XD & he was carrying a 3rd generation G-23 in addition to our rifles. He suggested we both shoot at a knot on a tree. He went first. My group with the XD was about half the size of his with the Glock. Then he suggested I shoot the Glock. My second group was about half the size of my first. That ruined it for me. I didn't wind up with a G-23 but I did wind up with a M&P 2.0 40 Compact later on. The XD was accurate & reliable. I think the ergonomics of it just weren't the best for me.

I own three Springfield's. I'm a big fan. EDC is a hellcat with wasp optic and compensated barrel. I have an XD sub compact 17+1 in 9mm and an XD-M elite in .45. If you have a reliable smith or you can do it yourself, a better trigger is all I would want. I'd buy it, however the s series means single stack mags and I like capacity. Even my tiny hellcat holds 15 w/ ext mags.

My experiences with the XD series has been positive all the way. Son carries a 9mm (not sure of model). Cousin carries an XDM(?) in 45 ACP. I've shot the XDM and it's top notch so expect the XDS to be similar.
I concur. I have an XDM-Elite in 45 acp. EDC is a Sig P-265 MS and my alternate is the Springfield. Both are carried in Urban Carry OWBs and carry and conceal nicely all day long.

checking sold auctions on gunbroker is the fastest way to see comps to deal fairly with friends.. like it or not, gunbroker sees a lot of traffic and their search tools work well

must be logged in, advanced tab, completed auctions search.. keep in mind condition, age, number of mags, accessories, etc. when comparing value.. and you can compare prices of what is selling vs not ;)

I got this xds .45 with robar treatment and 7 mags for $550 few years ago.. 8th mag courtesy of springfield when shipped back from recall.. also came with the essentials kit which is essentially useless

been an extremely reliable compact ccw with a heavy punch.. not a pleasant range toy with hst+p but still very manageable tool for the job

bought this xd 9mm in 2003 for under $400 new.. had quite a few rounds through it in 21 years of service, no failures, no complaints.. just an ordinary every day good running gun for range or duty

good luck with your deal with your friend!

I have carried and shot a 9mm XD with a 4" barrel for several years and really enjoy having it handy. It's easy to clean and very accurate for me.
