A Strange Neighbor Situation

I would ignore him when he waves also. It is like a ringing telephone, it has NO right to be answered either. He is lucky he isn't married to us my husband would have a comment to the guy that he would not like or do!

I think since it has been several months and I think it is bothering you more than him I would go with the kill him with kindness plan. One of two things will happen he will either come back around and appreciate your kindness of overlooking his transgressions or go crazy over you treating him as a friend. Both ways you win and can feel good about how you handled it but at the same time watch your back.

Didn't John Westly Hardin supposedly shoot a drummer through the wall of a hotel room because he was snoring? I read that several times but also read in his auto biography where he merely claimed he shot through the wall and the snoring subsided for the remainder of the night. I bet it did!

One can not reason with one who drinks. I would give this guy a wide berth. Cut your grass within reasonable time frame. Keep your cool. I think you have made a outstanding effort.

Drunk or not. The guy is going to try and cause trouble and control you no matter what you might do. He seems to think he is someone important that you need to pay heed to and mind what he orders you to do. Cut your grass whenever you want to because whatever you do will be the wrong thing to him.

If you want an alternative solution to try...tell HIM to mow your yard if he has a problem with when you do it. Good luck with that one.

If the sound of a lawn mower bothers you, you have much larger issues.

I watched about a 12 or 15 minute video of how to get the blade bar off a brush hog and install a new seal. About three minutes into the video, the guy's neighbor fired up his lawn mower. All through the rest of the video was the sound of that lawn mower practically drowning the guy out and you could see the guy mowing the lawn making passes back and forth in the back ground. Man, that was irritating.

More irritating was the fact that the idiot making the video didn't have sense enough to pause filming the video until the guy finished mowing his lawn !

I just had some new neighbors. They went right to town doing yard work cleaning the place. The only problem is that most of the brush they cut between my house and there house is on my land. I had let that brush grow up for 20 years just so I don't have to see the house next door. Now it is plan as day again. In the spring I plan to ask them what they have for a planting plan to replace the brush they cut of mine.

My thought is the guy is a drunk and deserves absolutely no consideration. Mow when you need to and if it causes trouble hand it over to law enforcement to handle. A couple of arrests for public intoxication it will either settle down, move or give you the opportunity to shoot it.

I think you handled it well to this point. But going forward, I agree with others and would completely ignore him and keep doing what you want to do. However, a drunk is unpredictable; so keep an eye on him.

I had a neighbor that asked if I would stop building a new deck in the backyard that day because she had been in a auto crash that day and needed rest. Ok, I worked full time plus had a vacation home and another rental I worked on to get it on the market besides my home. I really did not have time to put anything off but, did for her. I quit the work and used the time to get more lumber. 3 hours later I can still hear her on the phone with the patio door open. I carry the lumber to the deck and start nailing. She yells at me she really needs to rest. I told her sorry, I need to get work done, you have been talking on the phone since you said you needed rest. Mam, I have been working a graveyard shift nearly all my adult life, I know what it's like to not get sleep. If your going to rest I will stop work. She told the person on the phone how rude I was. Months later she asked that I not weed wack in the mornings because she works nights. I always start yard work after 10a. I agreed and asked her what nights she works and I will not to yard work the next day. She did not answer me at all. She huffed and spun around walked into her house. I talked with the other neighbor, he said she works days only but, goes drinking most fri/sat nights. She was renting and the landlord kicked her out a year or so later. He was working on the place and we spoke. He said she called him all the time complaining about me, other neighbors and the rental. Some people are just unreasonable add alcohol or other substances and it gets worse. I doubt she was ever in a crash and learned she did not work nights unless drinking was her job.

As far as I'm concerned, you are wrong. You shouldn't allow a neighbor to control when you do yard work, or when you do anything else, unless you are doing those things at unreasonable hours. If your neighbor can't put up with you mowing the lawn, he needs to develop at bit of patience, not drink another beer.

I'm so glad that my nearest neighbors are not even within shouting distance from me. I go to town once in a while and see the housing developments with the houses separated on the sides by six feet. And most are two story ones so they get a great view looking into each others windows. Front and back yards are postage stamp sized. I could not live like that.
