I was asked to build a small belt holster for a stevens single shot (parlor pistol)... It was more difficult than I imagined and because my cabin is so cluttered with needless things like a bunk and a kitchen sink, I managed to get a spot of dark brown dye on it.... So it was either a polka dot pattern, or dark brown.... I chose dark brown....
It's basically a "hunter" holster.. just a very skinny one.. Sorry for the poor image quality... my camera phone sucks...
Here are a few pics of the process.... If I ever build another I'll never put the safety strap behind the trigger guard... you can't get it out of the way very easily.....and the button to break the action open is really not made for holster carry...
I used really good dense leather and I think the molding will hold.... I hope...

not sure if it was for a trap line.... there isn't anything left to trap here... maybe when he was living down south.... the hunter design is just classic... and obviously what it was patterned after... the only change would be the safety strap... that's just not the best place for it....

I like it. I've always wanted to try to make a holster. Daddy was good at it but I lost all his tools in a fire. I don't know if I've been motivated enough start over from zero.

Start small. Perhaps a kit from Tandy. Your dad didn't just go out and buy a shop full of leather tools. I don't have a huge collection, but then again I'm not into the artsy stuff (carving and such) other than a bit of border stamping. I actually did make some money at it once, but that was for a very specific item for the company I was working for. When it turned out to be work (deadline and such) it wasn't as much fun.
