Hi there.

Was the 7x57 available since the early production years of the No.1? If so, what year did it become available? What about the 7x57 int? I would appreciate any information.

Cheers.

Pieter

I could be wrong, but I believe Ruger first made the 7x57 in 1976, when it was an uncatalogued 1A with the 200th year inscription. I have one of those.

There were some non-prefix 7x57s made a very few 1A 7x57s were produced in the early 1970's, but real production did not begin until the uncatloged distributor run in 1976 and it was in the catalog from 1977 until just a year or two ago.
The 7x57 RSI was not introduced until the early 1980s.

gewehrfreund: You forgot the 100 7x57 "B"s made as an uncataloged run in 1975. Mine letters to being shipped Aug 75.

As far as non prefix there are probably 75 "B" and a few "A"s there is a possabilty it was made in any/all the non prefix configurations in very small numbers.

In terms of being cataloged: The "A" was first cataloged in 1977. The "AB" was first cataloged in 1980. The RSI was first cataloged in 1983.

The first "A" I actually saw/bought was 131--51792 that shipped/letters to May 79. Still have it.

Ross, you're correct. I should not have overlooked the 1B since I have one now!
For some reason, my mind was only thinking 1A's, and I try not to think too much about the ugly ducking AB ;-)

My 7x57 AB does not look all that bad since I put on a scope. This one is almost like new in box. Although it never came in a Ruger box. Some times later I remodel a "B" forearm to a Henry one that has been kicking around. Which would loose
3-4 oz.

Put one a set of Weaver bases with Burris rings and loose another 3/4lbs. That ought make a nice light rifle. I really like that slim barrel. I am glad I did not tear it down. The 257Wby is at the smiih. The reamer the smith has, got no Wby free bore. A very slight reduction in powder would be required. There has been considerable talk about that free bore. With the strength of the #1 action there should be no trouble. Although no one would purposely try to ruin the brass.
