7x57 Mauser is an excellent flat-shooting caliber. Still lots of South American surplus ammo out there that's still affordable.

You are in trouble now. You will put that rifle in the safe and before you know it there is another one, different caliber, next to it. Pretty soon you are looking to buy a bigger safe to hold them all.

Unfortunately they only release a few different calibers and configurations each year. Lately they have been in the latest caliber of the week and not any of the classic calibers. I am still waiting for them to offer any version in 35 Remington.
A lot of used ones in various calibers, but there has never been a factory 35 Rem.

Great pick up! I have a 7x57 #1 RSI (Mannlicher stock) and it’s not for sale. I do need to shoot it some more come to think of it.

The No.1s are neat! Mauser cartridges are neat too. It's great to have them in the same rifle.
I wish gun makers would make more rifles in the Mauser rounds: 6.5, 7, 8, and 9.3 but they wouldn't sell a whole lot of them. Just my idle wishing.

I had on hand a box Remington 140 core lokts. These shot okay. With the rifle, I was also gifted two boxes of Federal 140 grain JSP. These shot very well with the Swarovski scope I put on it at first. I had eye relief issues with that scope and replaced it with an old Leupold 4x fixed scope I had in the drawer. I want to upgrade the scope to VX-3HD 1.5-5x20mm like I have on my 450/400 No. 1.
The Federals shot under 1 inch at 100 yards from the tripod. I'm sure a younger person with good eyesight and a more flexible body could shoot this gun a lot better than this 77 year old looking real close a 78. The deer lease I am on is primarily set up for archery, so shots are close-50 yards a long shot. I sighted the gun for 50 yard POA/POI. TH\e group below is 100 yards with the Federal 140's and is just under 1 inch-CTC.
This gun worked just fine at archery ranges. We had a pile of venison summer sausage this year.
I have a second No1 in 450/400 and it shoots even better. It is slowly becoming my favorite. It make much better blood trails without excessive meat damage.

Are you shooting factory loads for deer? I load my 450/400 3" NE with 300 gr. bullets for the 405 Win. for deer.
I bought mine so I could compete in the old "Ruger No. 1 Forum" postal shoots, class "D." My target load was a 265 Gr. Laser Cast GC bullet with 45 Gr. of 5744. It gave me a MV of about 1800 FPS, very pleasant to shoot. Grouped good too, I pulled the one on the left. 5 shots at 100 yds.
I had a 7x57 RSI that I had re-barreled to 35 Rem. Installed a picatinney rail to solve the eye relief problems.
Used the 7x57 barrel to make a RSI No. 2

I have seen a No. 1 in .275 Rigby. I think that is the same as 7X57. I still want one in .450/.400 NE and another in 9.3X63. I will stay with big bores.

Great find! I have been using a 1-A in 7x57 as my go to hunting rifle for the past 30 years!
Yes, you are correct in that the 275 Rigby is the same as the 7x57.

Thank you! The rings are the factory 1" and they look to be medium height rings.
thank you are they the same size? i know some are different on hawkeyes i didnt know if no 1s aree the same i have a 70s leupold vari x 2 2x7x33 im thinking about putting on it

The rings for the Ruger bolt actions are of two different heights, size in you prefer. The Ruger #1 rings are the same height/size.

I have the Ruger #1A n 7x57. I like the rifle but would prefer 2" more barrel. I find the "A" model Rugers to be a bit muzzle light and don't seem to hang as well as the "S" models. I'd be happier than hell if I ever found a Ruger #1S in 7x57 Mauser. For me that would be Nirvana.
