central, pa,
I have a 77\22magnum. It is super accurate with Aguila ammo. But misfires around 20% of the time. I cleaned the bolt. I took it to my local gunsmith. He cleaned and inspected it. Still does it. It is very reliable with other brands of ammo. But the Aguila is so much more accurate. Would a Wolff spring help this problem? Thank. jn

I have a M77 30-06 that occasionally would misfire due to light strikes. I changed the firing pin spring to a Wolfe spring and haven't had a light strike since.

It might be a head space issue. The 77/22 series uses a two piece bolt that locks at the rear. I've installed shim kits in my 77/22 and my 77/22 Hornet bolts. Shim kits are an inexpensive upgrade and easy to install. This may tighten up the variables between head space and ammo rim thickness.

Glad to see someone else who likes .22 Mag. When I bought a Ruger Single Six I fired six rounds of .22, then switched the cylinder out for the .22 Mag. I concentrated more and became even more of a better shooter. (I had to qualify as Expert every six months when I was in the service, shooting both my M2 Carbine and 1911)
Couple of decades later, went looking for a .22 Mag rifle. Ruger had discontinued theirs and there weren't any others around that I could find, until I got lucky and found a Remington 597M synthetic. Yes, it had a lot of problems, but fixed them, especially when I replaced the extractor with a Volquartsen and the probs disappeared.

No. And usually if i reload the round it will go off. It may be the ammo.

If the gun is reliable with other ammo, then it's definitely the ammo. I'd shop around for a better brand of ammo that's accurate & forget the foreign made stuff.

Right. Perhaps Aguila doesn't distribute the priming compound in the rim as thickly as other brands.

Maybe try ammoseek.com for the best prices and try to find an alternative to Aguila. Aguila isn't inexpensive, so you may even find a better and less expensive alternative.

Similar to what I did: 92 shots out of the .22LR cylinder and then decided I have enough other .22's that I should just shoot .22 mag out of my Single Six. It is an enjoyable round.

I'll second the bolt shim kit. It can make a 77/22 sing and dance. Easy alteration as well

I'll third the motion to try bolt shims. Heck, maybe a new firing pin spring as well. Neither will break the bank. But don't install both at the same time, cause if it gets fixed you'll not know which upgrade did the fix.
Aguila RF is known to be more dependable than some American brands. Maybe this batch isn't. But the 77 rimfires do have a rep for sloppy headspace.

Ok , you guys owe me $74!
I just ordered 2 shim kits for my M77/22 and my M77/357............
Also got sucked in on a VQ trigger sear kit I will try on one of them.
This free forum sure does cost a lot :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

I hear ya there. Over the last 10 years or so I have bought several guns and components because of reading about them on forums. On the positive side I used to spend large sums of money on gun magazines and I don't do that any more.

We've had more problems with FTF in both 22WMR and 17HMR than any other rimfire ammo. IMHO, this is the result of using somewhat 'harder' brass case material to help prevent 'slamfire' in those semi-auto guns chambered for the 'magnum rimfire' cartridges. The brass is more likely to become 'work hardened' during the base forming/rimming process.

Was hoping you'd let us know if ya found a fix, thanks. Now enjoy the rifle/ammo combo with hopefully a lot less frustration.

I've heard of a few other folks on other forums saying they had problems with Aquila ammo in rimfires.

While I do have a Ruger 77/22 Magnum in All Weather w/laminate stock, I don't have magnum Aquila ammo for it so I can't commit on your particular problem.

One thing I first upgraded was the heavy trigger of my magnum. I replaced it with a 2.5# JARD trigger. Sweetest trigger now for target or hunting, but took me awhile to set up with trigger adjustments/locktited down, to not bumpfire for all the safety reasons.
