475 Linebaugh conversion

I had another 100 round session of 475 Linebaugh today. Turned out to be one of my best days of shooting in years.

The groups pictured below were shot at 50 yards, bench rested. The load was my standard 27.0 of H110 with a 420 WFN. These are by far some of the best groups I've ever placed at that range.

I post all these target threads to prove a point. For one, these cannons can be tack-driving accurate. Secondly, with practice anyone can learn to manage the recoil. It does take a lot of volume shooting to get there though. But once you do the smaller stuff seems cupcake (44 Mag, 45 Colt, etc).

I think all too often folks buy 454s, 475s, and 500s and never "flex" them. Shoot the hell out 'em with top-end and you'll be surprised how proficient you can get after a few thousand rounds.

That is some mighty fine shooting! Also fine gun. I have a new .454 on the way and if I can do anywhere near that (with a scope) I will be pretty happy. My LGS has two .500 S&W's in the used case that look almost unfired. I would bet someone did not take the time to get used to them. Like the old days when you could buy .44 mags with a box of ammo missing 3-4 rds.

everybody wants a big bad a** gun but the don't have the time and more often the money to get good. By casting and reloading they would be surprised how much they could shoot.

Lee excellent shooting and I never get tired of looking at guns at the fact that they are home made is incredibly cool. Thanks for sharing. But the one question I have is how do your hands hold up? I have had my hands cut on 3 times in the last year and another on the way.

Thanks for sharing. But the one question I have is how do your hands hold up? I have had my hands cut on 3 times in the last year and another on the way.

I've been shooting rounds like this since 1992 and my hands have held-up fine (I lift a lot of free weights though and that helps with wrist strength). The only downside is my middle finger knuckle perpetually looks like this:

So, please tell me you didn't customize one of the few 44 Mag Accusport Bisleys to make this monster :shock:

I broke my wrist a couple years back and I am back to shooting full power 44 Mag and very heavy 45 Colts but heavy 454 loads out of my 7.5-inch SRH really gets my wrist after more then a few rounds. Kinda frustrating but I guess the really big toys are not for me unless I learn to shoot left handed and that is just not going to happen anytime soon. Oh well, the loads I can shoot will get me through...

That is an excellent looking gun and great shooting to do the gun justice! Reminds me I need to get out and practice with mine more!

No, it started life as a Super Blackhawk. I just added a stainless Bisley kit prior to the conversion.
