Could a 5 shot cylinder in 454 be fitted to a Bisley 5 1/2" using the original barrel ?

Yes, but normally the 5 shot cylinder is normally thicker AND longer so the back of the factory barrel would need to be modified as well.

If you handload, you don't need the .454. A five-shot .45Colt will do anything the .454 can do. That said, it would be silly to spend the big money on a custom five-shot conversion and NOT have a premium barrel installed along with a custom front sight.

I agree with Craig,

I understand if you want a 454 and are willing to spend that kind of money, you'd have a nice powerhouse but with just not that much more you could have a 1st class premium accuracy revolver too.

Also since you have the large frame Blackhawk you're safe to stoke it with those super hot ruger only 45 Colt loads already.

I agree with the consensus here... a heavy 45 colt 5 shot conversion shooting heavy for caliber bullets will do pretty much anything the 454 will do at reasonable hand gun ranges. If you need more, step up to the 475 Linebaugh, and have a revolver that is capable of killing any mammal o earth, assuming the shooter is. The 454, IMO, is an unnecessary gap bridger btwn a heavy 45 Colt and the 475 Linebaugh...
