Am contemplating trading a 4-5/8" stainless NM .357 Blackhawk for a .45 Bisley with a 7.5" barrel because......., well just because. I'm a handloader - mainly rifle and I reckon I'd have to start for the .45. I'm just wondering about that long 7.5" barrel on that .45 - how do y'all like them, probably not the easiest thing to tote around?

My S-I-L and I both have 4 5/8" Bisleys. Mine is a custom Vaquero and his is a custom Blackhawk. The shorter barrel length makes for a good easy toting "packin gun". If I had one with the 7 1/2" barrel I would use it for a primary hunting gun as I don't think it would be very comfortable as a back-up. I use a scoped NM Blackhawk 41Mag with 6 1/2" barrel for handgun deer hunting once in a while and in my opinion that is all I would use it for. You must decide what you want out of a revolver.

My 7 1/2" Bisley rides comfortably in a custom California Slim Jim crossdraw made by Doug Pruden over on the muzzleloading forum. (djpleathersmith) I like the crossdraw because it seems a more natural draw than a strong side high ride forward rake. It's also "out of the way" when driving and handy to get to if need be.

My Bisley is my competition revolver for BPCR matches and I love it!

I'm a big fan of 7-1/2" big bores. I have NO problems with carrying one around out in the woods.
I really like the increased sight radius which makes them easier to shoot at longer ranges.

I like my 7.5" Blackhawk, but that extra barrel does tend to get in the way. You cannot sit on a bench seat with it holstered on the waist, the barrel will get in the way. Like flatgate said, the extra sight radius does come in handy.

First off I like the shoorter barrels.
I do have a vew 5 1/2 in Vaqueros though.
If It's a good deal and you expect to keep it a long time go for it.
Many a cowboy action Shooter (SASS) have tryed to sell the 7 1/2 inch guns and can't seem to give 'em away. Very limited re-sell market ver's the shorter barrel Rugers!
