A question for the class..............If I was to buy a lever rifle chambered in .454 could I shoot .45LC thru it also? I am still looking for a Rossi R92. I saw that they are also available chambered in .454 which raised the question in my pointy little head..... :)

I haven't seen anything about this question. I know that some Rossi .38/357 carbines have a problem with the .38's.
There's a .040 difference in OAL between the .38 and .357.
The difference in OAL for the .45 and .454 is .165.
I would not be surprised to hear about feeding difficulties with .45 Colt rounds. Also, are you sure you want a .454 carbine? A lot of folks have found the recoil of .44 magnums in one of these to be decidedly uncomfortable.

I read somewhere there was only a problem using certain bullet designs that created a feed problem. Not much different than certain 45 auto's not liking SWC bullets.
Seemed like the RF design was not a problem but being it didn't pertain to me, I didn't retain the information.

I sat on my hands too long when Lucyday had that EMF R92 for sale ...... :cry: ...... but I will continue my search.

Load .454's at any LEVEL you want. From mild to the "WALL". The .454 brass will run threw at any power level. You will have it down the road or the next owner will appreciate having it broke in for them... work the action every night before bed 10 - 20 times, it adds up. Or kit it with the DVD and parts from Nates..?

I'm headed down this path as well (see my other thread) after switching over from .44 mag.
I did this because a buddy of mine got me hooked on 45 colt!
So now I'm interested in .45 Colt and .454
I had finally moved my few remaining .44s, which consisted of a S&W 629 performance 7 inch, Ruger SBH Hunter 7 inch, and stainless Rossi 92 16 inch.
The first gun I'm looking to replace with these newly acquired funds is the Rossi 92. (I'm torn between the .454 and .45 Colt versions.
Prior to owning the .44, I had the .357 mag. version of the Rossi 92. It wouldn't feed .38 spl. in ANY flavor.
The .44 mag version was very picky about the bullet shape.
I've read several articles about the Rossi 92 chambered in .454, this being one of the more comprehensive reads:

MY 454 ROSSI feeds and shoots both calibers interchangably. The one bought right beside it at the same time does not feed squat in 45COLT other than one particular 320gr LFN.

This is great news, seems to be the general consensus. That 45 colt will run in the 454 model. I suppose, I'll have to get the Rossi 92 in 454. If it doesn't like 45 Colts, that's just a reason to buy one if those too!

The Rossi 92 in 454 Casull will accept both cartridges just fine.
What I like is that I can load the 454 cases with any .45LC loading to the highest 454 Casull load data. This eliminates chamber fouling from the shorter 45LC cases.
I prefer to load Ruger only data and loads in between that and the lowest 454 loading.
Believe me, they have plenty of 'umph' for whatever you intend to shoot. Less wear on me and the gun.
My latest "tweener" load is 300gr Sierra JSP over 25gr H110, Rem 7 1/2 small rifle primer
Another is 250 hardcast Oregon Trail over 20gr IMR4227, Rem 7 1/2 small rifle primer (45LC Ruger only load in 454 case)

After my Rossi 44M cracked the barrel open from the receiver to the rear sight, I cringe at the thought of anyone firing a 65,000 PSI cartridge... and I walk a fair distance from anyone doing so.

Better glom onto one - it looks like the .454 Model 92 is missing from Rossi's products listings.
If one found is a used specimen, it would bode well if it wasn't an early version (they used to spit out the magazine tube under full-house .454 loads).
The later/upgraded versions will have a magazine tube threaded into the front of the receiver, and load from the forward end of the tube.
