I'm looking for a 45 ACP cylinder for my large frame SS Bisley 45 Colt. What's the difference between one for a large frame vs a medium frame? How do I id both?

Thanks.

Take your current cylinder, and measure it. Especially the OAL! (That's the critical measurement so it'll fit the frame window with a proper cylinder to barrel gap. Then, place an ad for a Blackhawk 45 ACP cylinder with the OAL as long as yours or a few thousands over. You can always hone the excess off the front of the cylinder boss.

Thanks.

Someone else recently posted that Ruger will fit a new cylinder for less than $200, cylinder included
Can this be true?

I have a Blackhawk Bisley SS 45 Colt with the 5 1/2" barrel and have been thinking about getting the ACP cylinder for it. I called Ruger several days ago to check on getting the cylinder. The lady told me that at this time they cannot fit that cylinder to my gun. The reason being, they have an exclusive contract with one of their distributors for that gun and cannot provide that cylinder until that contract expires...no date as to when that might happen. She told me the cost would be $150 - $200 plus shipping both ways.

That makes sense, thanks.

No wonder used cylinders are going for so much....

I have an old model Vaq that came with both cylinders, and it is one of my favorite pieces. To be able to shoot both cartridges is great. Not sure if they still make these models anymore?!?!

Yes, there seems to be only listed on the Ruger homepage.
The New Vaquero with .45 Colt + .45 ACP is a Davidson exclusive, SS, 4.62" BBL,
Model #5144.

New Vaquero's NOT for Ruger Only loads of course.

Looks really nice.

Several years ago I bought the Bisley Blackhawk, but can't remember which distributor. It came with both cyl.

Back in 2002 I bought a regular blued Blackhawk in 45LC thinking they would fit the 45 ACP Cyl. They said no longer something they did. Later that year I bought a Blawkhawk convertible that had both cyl. Was able to later trade off the first Blackhawk for something I wanted more.

Ruger will only offer a spare cylinder such as a 45 acp one IF,,,,IF the gun you want it for was offered as a convertible.

Yep. I called them two weeks ago and was told the same thing. Darn. I think Reeder will fit one on your gun for $250. Not bad!
