44 special sheriff's model

if the hammer on the 45ACP is the lower profile one and blued, I'd trade you for the hammer on my Sheriff's Vaquero shown here:

I also have this same revolver.....and have a Super Black Hawk hammer on order from Midway. (backorder status)
I used to own the birdshead 45 ACP in blued, and loved the SBH hammer profile.

So...my Sheriff 44 will soon be sporting the SBH hammer (it will look like a blued Montado...only in 44 Spec!)

Sounds like you're good to go then! Not great pic, but for a preview of yours, here is a SBH installed on my New Vaquero .44 Sp. 4-5/8".

What looks like worn alum ejector housing is just bad pic (again) of stock polished blue steel!

I don't know exactly why... but on that short barrel gun, the really high hammer just seems "right" to me. Maybe it just makes it look more like a Colt!

I left mine original. Except for better grips.

I prefer the tall hammer on the fixed sight guns for sure!

Now a Blackhawk... Thats a different story!

Gregg, Joe, I think you're right on the blued guns especially, including my 4-5/8" - I thought of. Standard old Vaquero/Blackhawk hammer and still considering doing that to the above gun, but the SBH came along - and the "longhorn" New Vaq hammer just had to go. Because it made them twins, putting the polished Montado hammer on my SS .44 Special shorty (Sheriff) to match my .357 Montado was a natural, essentially making for a .44 Montado.
Otherwise, like you, I like the old Vaq/BH high hammer transplant on the New Vaq idea as I see a lot of others do too.
I should add, I too think I like the profile (side view) of the "high" Blackhwk/old Vaq hammer better on a lot of NV's, but the wider thumb purchase on the Montado/SBH sure is nice. And, I like the feel of my Colt's and USFA's hammers better than either the Vaquero/BH or NV hammers.

I've got a polished stainless sheriff's model in 44 spl with the high hammer and just really like the way it looks and feels. Just a personal preference kind of thing. :)

I also like the taller, upright, black powder style hammer that came on my SSSS, shiny stainless steel Sheriff. stevemb
