44 spc

Wrt the .44 Special, the Sheriff is just the marketing name for the shorty 3.75" New Vaquero. The NV is available in 4-5/8"--like the Sheriff, via a Lipsey's dealer (LGS or other online)
(Btw--unique among all New Vaqueros, Ruger has been labeling (on the frame) its .44 Specials just "Vaquero" and callng all NVs just Vaquero in its (and dealers') literature. Strange but true.)

That's sure to confuse a few owners.

As if trying to figure out what grip frame you have, when choosing custom grips wasnt confusing enough..

The good news with the Ruger .44 Special SA is knowing that any factory offering in this caliber (cartridge) is always a midframe regardless of labeling or distributor-dealer misinformation--which is rampant. With other cartridges, you always have to ask "which frame?" If they just say Vaquero (that is of course if you don't have access to a pic of the frame marking). The same is true these days of the Blackhawk--with the advent of the new Flattops, unless .44 Sp, always have to ask "Flattop/midframe?" or "large frame Blackhawk?"--if you can't see/dont have a pic of the topstrap.

Does anyone know if a Sheriff mod comes with a 4 5/8" or 5.5" barrel? Thanks Jerry

Something makes me think you meant "Birds Head" when you said "Sheriffs"... and if so, the answer is 3 3/4" and 4 5/8".

Not if he's talking .44 Special (re the Birdshead part). I think, effectively he meant, "is there a 4-5/8" New Vaquero .44 Sp?" and the answer is yes.

In that case the OP makes no sense, but I can be dense at times.

Not really :) but I think he just saw a 3-3/4" described (correctly) as a Sheriff and wondered if it came in a longer variation.

Then it wouldn't be a "Sheriff" model.
No it wouldn't but that's the point. He saw the basic gun (platform) as being a "Sheriff" and not just a specific variation of a New Vaquero, which is all it is. Thus, the logic stream of wanting a longer "Sheriff."

Sorry my post was short on info. Yes I saw pictures of Sheriff mod, but failed to rcognize Birdshead grip. I am interested in .44 spc. but not with the birdshead grtp. Jerry

Here is a link to the Sturm Ruger page with the distriutor exclusive SA revolvers. The "Sheriffs" model is 5146, 3 3/4..... and they also offer a 4.62 barrel 5148 but do not label it as a Sheriffs model. I own a 5146 and its a great revolver.

Boy' I really like that catalog page, good thing I'm broke or I'd be in BIG trouble with the Boss! :P

I can now see where the confusion came from! Unfortunate pairing of the .45 Birdshead pic at the head of all those listings. Yes, there are no Birdsheads in .44 Special (yet?).

I'm sure looking forward to the day I hear they are making a Birdshead .44 sp. Hear me Talo? Lipsey's?
