I'm new to the board, but a long time Ruger owner. I have a .44 RedHawk with a 4 5/8 barrel. It has a horrible trigger when shot DA. Any suggestions

Weird; I've owned five Redhawks (admittedly, only one chambered for 44Magnum, bought new) and all had decent DA feel, with the 44 being the most stellar. In fact, its DA trigger feel is good enough to be compared with any fine trigger.
(and the others were none 'bad').

No trigger work, just the way it came from its box......

For YOURS, first ensure it is assembled correctly, then lubricate it using BreaklFree CLP.
Better?

The easiest way to get a better trigger,, is to have a gunsmith clean up the action,, and then do a lot of shooting & dryfiring with a properly lubed firearm.

Just shoot it and dry-fire many times... they're all pretty stout from the factory.

Hmmm. Do you have a 4 inch barrel or a 4 5/8 inch barrel. The latter comes on a SA gun the former on the Redhawk. Unless something has changed recently and I didn't get the memo. Yep, take her down and make sure no burrs or shavings present, lube and dry fire.
