44 Blackhawk from 1957

I was fortunate enough to add another original Flat-top Ruger to my meager collection. This one is a 44 Blackhawk with a 4 digit serial number, the earliest one of this model I've ever owned.

This one has the earlier narrow and more deeply curved trigger. It feels funny but I'm sure not going to change it.

Only real blemishes are on the right side of the grip frame and some holster wear on the front of the cylinder.

I've owned a number of these in years past, foolishly sold when I was younger, but I have to say this one is the nicest of them all, at least in my eyes.

Those flattops are really great looking guns Never get tired of seeing one posted-- some folks may say --well once you have seen one you've seen them all-----not so with me :!: like to see folks find one not so easy anymore nice purchase.

Beautiful ol' Ruger. I find it interesting that the gun exhibits a "drilled through" base pin latch nut. That feature didn't show up until around s/n 12,000 in 1958. Do you have a ship date for your Flattop? Do you know if the gun was ever "converted" by Ruger to the transfer bar system? Ruger would sometimes "upgrade" the base pin latch to the drilled through style whenever a gun came into the service department.

I found one last weekend myself....21858.....still need 4 more and I will have one in each of 1xxx thru 29xxx serial range...need 18xxx, 20xxx, 24xxx, 25xxx, to be all technical I need a 28xxx xr3 framed gun as I have a xr3red.....finished the 1xx thru 9xx with a little help from my friends :lol: :lol: :lol: please don't tell me the serial number I may have the consecutive.....and I love to pair them up......mine is 4211 see ya RR.

Not converted. I would guess that's a replacement part. I realize that sends real collectors into a tizzy but I can live with it. If you want to be picky, according to the book I have it should have the walnut stocks too. I kind of like the plastic ones so it's still OK with me.

I got it to shoot and it's just fine the way it is for my purposes.

Good catch. Although I've had a few 357 flattops, never had a 44. Someday, someday.
