Friend at work is looking for a revolver that shoots 410. He is normally a colt guy so let me know what is available. / what you have experience with.

Smith & Wesson Governor. Although I have tried one of these a few times and fail to see the attraction, they sell a bunch of 'em.

Of course, if he really likes Colts...

Real Guns  ...and it comes with a duck call

Can I ask what is the problem with a Taurus? I have a stainless steel Public Defender that goes bang every single time I pull the trigger.....great snake/mouse/rat gun.... I understand the Governor is pretty much the same way..... :?

Yours may go bang everytime...and my Doctor friend has one that will go bang everytime...then you have to take a hammer to beat the hulls out. Complete POS.

Maybe so, but I have owned 10 Taurus handguns through the years and every one of them has been a very decent, serviceable gun. Not only that, but when 2 of them were damaged by grievous operator error (which I freely confessed to the company) they were repaired properly and returned promptly, at no charge. Sad to say, but in terms of production quality I have had better luck with Taurus than with Ruger and S&W.

But I still feel zero attraction to a .410 regardless of make.

Good for you on the Taurus handguns...I have not been so fortunate. I have 2 revolvers in the safe, M44 and a 970, that are have been junk since new.

Never had it happen. But then again I am staying well within the power range with what I feed it. This is the only one I have ever owned so a limited data base to be sure. But I will stand by what I said. One of the best little pack-around guns I have ever owned.

Some people just get an opinion in their head on things. Not real sure why he doesn't want a Taurus but he doesn't. He is used to Colt quality so I guess that is part of it.

Thanks,

I don't believe Colt makes what your friend wants. Of those available, I'd opt for the S&W, but I also don't see the point. A good hollowpoint round in 45 will do the job. A nice 20 gauge shotgun will do the rest.

He does like his colt 1911 but thinks that is a bit much for home defence. Worried about going thru walls etc I think, I told him the Magnum Research with the 5" barrel looked good. sorta like a cowboy gun.

This happens with both the S&W Governor and the Taurus Judge. The problem isn't with the gun, it's with the ammo. You have to use high quality American made .410 ammo or you will have extraction problems. I haven't had any issues using Federal or Winchester .410 ammo.

How about a single action?

(If you can get past a safety  on a revolver. )

Not as pricey as a BFR, but a long ways from the quality too.
