Recently acquired a very well maintained .41 Magnum Ruger New Model Blackhawk (1976 vintage according to Ruger's SN records). Am looking for some good suggestions for "lighter" target loads (at least, to start with). Bullets I currently have on hand include 210 gr LSWC and Berry's plated SWC, as well as 200 gr JHP's. Powders I currently have on hand for this purpose are Unique, 2400 and Accurate #9. Any suggestions?

I have shot 14.4gr of Accurate #9 with a Berry's 210gr bullet. The load is pleasant to shoot and fairly accurate. I get better accuracy with 11.0gr of Blue Dot and 7.0gr of HP-38 using the same copper plated bullet. All three loads are about 20% down from Max. so they should be good with medium to soft lead as well.

2400 and #9 don't lend themselves very well to loads reduced more than 20% from max. With Unique you could go with 7.0gr for a target load and as low as 5.0gr which would be a powder puff load.

The 41 magnum is a very versatile cartridge if you handload for it. With your JHPs I would use the 2400 or #9 and start 10% below max and work up if you want. 8) 8)
