I have recently add a BlackHawk .41 Mag. to my arsenal. It is my first .41 and I am loving it.
I am loading 210 gn. XTP (only because I have some) but mostly using molly coat lead SWC's
210 and 190 gn. Because of my poor old hands I tend to lite load. After all I'm just plinking.
Was wondering what you all might use.
Thanks, Steve

I like to shoot about a 20% reduced load - 7.0 gr of Universal with a 210 gr copper plated or lead bullet.

For a 'cowboy' load reduce to 5.6 gr of Universal with lead bullet. :D :D

For light loads, I use 210 grain plated bullets, 9.7 grains of Unique, and LP primers. It chronos at 1200 fps out of my Redhawk and is very enjoyable to shoot. I think starting loads for Unique are around 9 grains so you could dial it back further if you wanted.

I shoot 2 loads in my 41 maggie's, the first one is 17 grs of 2400, I've shot it for many years (1967) & I've taken a lot of game with it using a 230 gr Keith cast slug. Its probably a little bit heavy for your needs. My everyday load is 8 grs of Unique with the same 230 gr Keith, it would certainly take deer with no problem assuming proper hits. This load is easy on the back end but serious out the front end if you need to whack something.

My USPSA competition load for my 5.5" 41 Magnum Redhawk used a 210g LSWC over 7.3g Universal, CCI350, and a firm crimp using the superior Redding Profile Crimp Die.
It was accurate and controllable.

I use in my 6 1/2" Blackhawk, Starline brass, 9 grs Unique, Missouri Bullet 215gr "Trooper" and WLP primers using the Lee die set with the Factor Crimp Die for the final step. I get @ 1130 FPS from my CED chrono. FUN!

I really like 6.5 gr of HP38 or Winchester 231 with any quality 210-220 gr LSWC. I have two Ruger BH's and a Smith 57 that truly love that prescription. Avg gps for all three are way under 2" at 25 yds from a rest. I chrono that load at 1006 fps from a 6-1/2" NMBH and is a good mild but authoritative load for daily carry or plinking.

For deer or other medium sized game, I like Hornady's 210 gr XTP over 17.0 gr's. of Accurate #9. This too is an accurate load in my guns, with groups as good as the LSWC load. This jacketed load chrono's at 1258 fps from a 6-1/2" NMBH.

I use Starline brass and Winchester Lg Pistol primers for the loads above, and with a moderate rolled crimp.

As always, these are my loads, safe in my guns...you should work up to them if interested looking for signs of pressure and after consulting a good published loading manual.

Best Regards, Rod
