Don't ask me why... the catastrophic claims adjuster was here in January and spend several hours looking at what we had and two weeks later dropped off a start up check for 100K+
On Thursday someone from Allstate called and said we had a new adjuster and he needed to come out and inspect the house... don't know why, maybe they are questioning the other adjusters findings but any way the person on the phone from Allstate then tells me our contractor needs to be there in order to remove the tarp off the house so the adjuster can see the damage to the roof and then of course put the tarp back. I tried to explain to the guy on the phone that this was not needed and he just kept saying we had to do it. Which we won't by the way... and this I finally realized is why... there is no roof under the tarp and there is no ceiling either. it's all gone... initially is was all hanging down in the bedroom and I finally got around to ripping and cutting it all and putting it in the dumpster we have in the side yard.... which is full of this debris. My point is you can't see the damage to the roof if the roof is missing... but then of Course the person on the phone is just reading a script and going by the rules...

Sad deal right there Blume ….. sorry for you having to go through that. Really sucks I’m sure.

In my parents' neighborhood a bad hailstorm came through, dropping golf ball size hail. Every body in the neighborhood insurance paid to reroof their houses except my parents' home. My dad asked the insurance agent for a second opinion, and they sent the same adjuster out and he denied them again. My dad asked the insurance agent if he wanted a second medical opinion would he use the same doctor. They then sent out another adjuster and he said it needed all new roofing.

We have no real complaints with Allstate. I was impressed with the two previous adjusters. The first one came about 2 weeks after Helene and she did a good job of looking everything over and then told us this was way out of her league.... we then went out of town for 3 weeks and that kind of messed them up for the next person... next they sent out a structural engineer to I guess see if the house was worth saving... then came the 2nd adjuster who it seems is from their catastrophic devision .... the report of what needs to be repairs is a mind boggling ltemised list about 18 pages kong. We'll see what's going on tomorrow with this new guy... but not really worried about him or Allstate. They are a big buraracy with a ton of stuff going on and we are just one little piece of the pie. Since day one I've estimated the repair to our home and property would be somewhere between 100 and 200 thousand dollars. I guess the one interesting issue was the letter we got back in March saying the claim would be closed 180 days after we got the first check, I had to get on line with folks and tell them that is not part of the deal... even I know that is not how insurance works.

We had a very bad hail storm years ago and an adjuster was sent out to inspect the roof. I followed him up on the roof. He walked all over the roof, looked at me and said we will pay for the roof except for one square. I asked him to repeat what he just said. He did and I asked him how he would like to be throwed of the roof. He decided they would pay for the whole roof.

My neighbors got someone to inspect their roof and ended up with a new one. They said I ought to do the same but frankly I'm afraid to. I figure as soon as I file a claim state farm will either jack me up so high I can't afford it or cancel me outright. I had a roofing guy come by and look at my roof, he cleaned up a few spots and said my roof looked to be in good shape.
Fortunately we don't have many hail storms because my roof is getting old.

I repaired chimneys for years from chimney fires and this was covered by the homeowner's insurance... I realized after about 10 or 15 years, they, the insurance companies, are going to get their money back one way or another..... I'm not of the mind to file a claim... but what we have going on now was not an option.... like I said, this is a big one.... I may have mentioned this... but the issue with the claim is we are not going to put the damaged parts of the house back the way they were but going to add on and change some things... we don't expect Allstate to pay for that... the other issue is the damage to the yard can't be replaced the way it was... at least I can't figure out how... how do you 'replace' 6-8 oak trees over a hundred years old plus all the other plants that grew ... I guess the terrace wall and brick pathways I had put in could be redone... Sometime in the next day or two I might get around to sending the drone back up for a photo op.....
