How long is it going to take ruger to make this work? Is it just the matter of reaming the cylinder a little more to make room for the case or is there something else I am not aware of.

I am thinking about picking up one of the case colored birds head 4 5/8 ss in 32h&h and having it reamed... point me in the right direction.

Has to have a longer cylinder....you can get a custom cyl. made, shorten the barrel at the breech end, recut the forcing and you are good to go. I had a RSSM6 done this way by Hamilton Bowen and it really shoots! I like that hot little cartridge.

So this turns out to be cheaper than a FA. Gun is arround 400$ and work is 800$. FA is about 1900$. Now I just need to figure out how to get this past the wife.

Why not just go with the 327 blackhawk? It's cheaper and has an 8 shot cylinder.

I have a .357 blackhawk and a 44 mag Vaquero. I like them but also like the smaller Single six and dont have one. I am on the waiting list for the Blackbird. This would be kind of a big brother to it.

Harley, I would not do it. The 327 Federal Magnum operates at over TWICE the pressure of the 32 H&R Magnum. I fear that if you fired so much as one round, you run the risk of grenading the gun.

Yes, it does operate at high pressure levels... which is one of the reasons why Bowen and the other gunsmiths machine a new cylinder when doing the conversion to 327. I have not heard about any "KaBooms" of a 327 converted Single Six. I have heard, however, that Bowen is a master at what he does and I cannot imagine that he would knowingly produce something that had a chance of exploding.

A new cylinder, yes. But is that with their own metal or do they use a Ruger OEM cylinder? I would think the Ruger Cylinder, if it could even be reamed out, would not hold up very well. And from how I understood Harley's post, he wanted to use the gun as shipped rather than upgrade it with new and stronger parts.

From what I read the cyl is too short thus they make a new one. That being said they must use their own metal not an OEM replacement as they dont make one long enough for this frame. I believe Bowen would not do me wrong. His reputation is much to good to risk something he is not confident in.

But anyway, NOW I understand! If Bowen does the work, then you can best believe it will hold up! :) I misunderstood your original post and for that, I apologize.

...And if you look further on Bowen's site, he sells FLUTED cylinder blanks with starter bore holes for your local smith to finish (by specifically boring for .327). This is as much a no-brainer for Ruger for the Single Six as I've seen since the .44 Sp Flattops and NVs. No, properly cylinder'd, the gun will not grenade.
Edit: all the other usual top Rugersmith suspects (Gallagher, Clements, Harton, etc) will also be happy to oblige doing essentially the same (complete) conversion, likely also using Bowen's cylinder blanks (whatever the original source).

Testimony,,,,I have probably shot at least 1000 rounds in my RSSM .327 conversion and it ain't blown or hiccuped yet!

Bowen also extended the chambers in a 4" barrel SP10132 H&R Mag. for me and it too shoots great. 500+ rounds down the tube and its still as tight as can be! He put a S&W J-Frame adjustable sight on it which even makes it better.

The other three "Smiths" mentioned will also do you a bang-up job.
