327 magnum question

Help Support Ruger Forum:

While not exactly super rare, they are very uncommon and highly sought after. A NIB one can be in the $1500 range. Check gunbroker for completed auctions for the most recent values.

If you can find one at a decent price, get it. Since it is a blackhawk, the cylinder is 357 mag length which opens up using heavier bullets than the shorter cylinders will allow.

The Blackhawk 327 is a versatile revolver that shoots full on 327 mag loads effortlessly and it will also shoot light target loads. One of our favorites is 32 S&W Longs with a 98 grain WC "hot rodded" (LOL) with 1.5 grains of powder. This load is very accurate even at 25 yards.

My Single Seven, SP101 and S&W 632-2 Pro all have no problem chambering 130 grain semi-wadcutters. I don't think you would want to go much heavier?

The Blackhawk does a good job with 153s. That gets a sectional density around 0.225. Point being you are not limited by cylinder length.

Where do you get those 153 gr projectiles?
I've had good results with "heavy " 32-20" bullets...

I have been casting bullets since the 70s and where I lived in PA, seeing a bullet mold at a garage sale was not that uncommon. Somewhere along the line I picked up a 30 cal 150 FNGC mold most likely for a 30-30 Win or similar. The bullets came out around 153 grains with gas check and without lube and were about 0.313-0.314".

We load for 3 guns in 327 mag; Ruger GP100, Ruger Blackhawk and a Henry rifle. The rounds for the Henry have to be 1.16 - 1.53" to work thru the action but the revolvers will shoot just about anything. We have molds from 95 grain wad cutter to 160 grain that will fit the 327.

Thanks for the suggestion.
Since you have a rifle, I'll mention that have good results with this SKS bullet in my Marlin 32H&R.

I just checked my database. The 2 bullets that have consistently performed the best in all three guns are an Accurate 132 FNGC and a NOE 120 GC using AA9 in both of them. The standard velocity deviation is around 8 fps.

All I have for my Single Seven are Federal AE 85 & 100 grain soft points and .32 S&W Long.
Those 100 grain cartridges are something else in that little wheel gun.

I just got one of those. Only 18 away from your s/n. I haven't shot it yet but like you I only have the AE 100 grain ammo. I have brass, dies and bullets on the way from Midway.
