.327 GP100 fun

I bought me a GP100 in .327 around Christmas/New Year. I mounted a Simmons 4x32 scope on it for load development but, I may end up leaving it on there. I ran a few 100gr Hornady XTP's through it today that were seated over 10.2-11.2gr of Alliant's 2400. I got some pretty good groups and with the absence of recoil I had a great time.

Next, I'm going to try some 85gr XTP's. I hope to find a good load to hunt with. I have taken a few squirrels with handguns but, I'd like to try to take something a little larger. I believe an XTP at 1200-1400fps should do the trick.

I've always been more of a single action guy but my last 2 handgun purchases have been DA .327's. The GP was the last one, the other one was a 2" Smith. Which has been a constant companion since I bought it.

What kind of "fun" do y'all have with your .327's?

I almost bought a .327 SP101 today, but got a .38 instead........I have wanted a .327 GP100 for a while now.

When I was a younger shooter I used to mess with the old .32 top breaks and other antique revolvers. I had some .32 short S&W DA's and a few other solid frame .32's from the 1880's-90's. I also shot a ton of the (formerly) cheap Fiocchi .32 S&W Long through my two Nagant revolvers and a bunch of other European revolvers. I fell in love with the little .32's like the H&R Magnum too, as well as .32 Auto pistols. Even in the loose little break tops and the larger chambers of the Nagants, the .32 Long and H&R Mag was very accurate and fun to shoot. Doesn't kill you with muzzle blast and enough pop to be fun.

So, when the .327 came out I immediately wished for a GP100 chambered for it, and other gun buys keep getting in the way but soon I will have a .327 GP. The .327 Fed Mag is ideal for defensive use, but the other .32 can be used for plinking. It's too bad there's no more cheap .32 Long ammo anymore though.......back in the early 2000's I used to get 1,000 round cases for like $100, those days are gone.

I don't have any DA 327's, but my Blackhawk 327 is sweet. I installed a set of hammer & trigger shims, cleaned up the action, and added a Belt Mtn base pin. It rides in a Barranti holster, and is one sweet fun shooter.

I have a GP 327 and cast my own took it out this week and shot at some rocks at 150 and 200 yds i never shot beyond 50 until then and I hit a few big rocks it was a lot fun my friend said he is going to get one he is hooked

I'm not going down, as in, ditching the 100 grainers. I like the load I shot Saturday and I'm sticking with it. However, I do have a couple hundred 85gr XTP's on hand and just hate to see'em laying around like that. So I'm gonna see what they'll do outta the GP too. 8)

So far all I've done with my GP in 327 is punch paper which is fun to me. I've just about settled on Ramshot True Blue. It gives me the best accuracy at 25 yards with either the 85 or 100 XTP. It's now time to try some hard cast but unfortunately reload info for lead is very scarce. It will be fun just trying to find a starting point for the lead than developing the load.
