.30-06 220 gr RN Loadings...

I recently turned a $1500 NIB Winchester 1895 100th Anniversary .30-06 into a $900 shooter just because it needed to be shot. With that being said, I really like the idea of shooting 220 Gr RN bullets out of it, one of the reasons being I bought 2 coffee cans full of them for $30.00. The initial load I tried was 45.0 Gr of Win 748 which seemed to shoot well informally, steel plates at 100 yds. I am thinking there may be some powders better suited to this bullet weight, like maybe Win 760 or IMR 4350. Not looking for a shoulder buster, but 2300-2400 fps for target shooting. Does anyone have any experience with this bullet in .30-06?

Hornady 9th Edition lists their 220gr RN using IMR4350 from 2000fps (40.6gr) to 2500fps (52.4gr) and 10 other powders.

Sierra Edition V lists their 220gr RN using 760 from 2300fps (48.2gr) to 2400fps (49.3gr).
And IMR4350 from 2100fps (44.5gr) to 2500fps (52.5gr) and 13 other powders.

Lyman 46th Edition lists Hornadys 220gr RN using 760 from 2106fps (44.4gr) to 2381fps (50.5gr).
And IMR4350 from 2309fps (49.0gr) to 2500fps (53.0gr) and 9 other powders.

Winchester WMR works well for me with 200 & 220 gr. bullets. I bought 4 8# canisters from a distributor on closeout for 50.00 each. I also use it for my 243 with 80 gr. bullets. I have a couple other calibers I am going to find good loads for using it. All the load data is for Heavy bullets.

Thanks for the info. I picked up another seater die to use for the dedicated 220 gr load. For the next batch, I think I'll try IMR-4350 which seems like a natural fit. This 1895 handles very well, probably my favorite lever action rifle.
