I know, I know, I picked up a ruger harrier 556 about a month or go so. Never popped a round in her yet. Ordered a 300 blk upper for it, just got it a week ago. Just to burn off .308 Dia 180gr Spitzer pro hunters that my rem 700 can't group worth crap, with powders I have for a 45/70 that's long been retired.
Riddle me this batman, my savage axis in 270win dam misfires 3-5 rounds out of 20. Maybe a tick up more. Dont get me wrong, she can group but when she goes bang. Ripped the bolt apart, dam firing pin spring is in 3 pieces. 1 short piece in front with a washer thingy in the middle followed by a longer piece at the end. Thinking the springs binds up, What were you thinking savage?
Soo, build a 277 wolverine to burn off the 277 pills or not? Woe is me

You're going to trash a Savage Axis over a broken FP spring? I'll admit Axis isn't top of the line but you did say it's accurate. Why not just replace the $3 spring and see if that fixes the problem?
The problem with oddball cartridges like the .277 is: what's it worth if you don't like it?
Son was looking for something with low recoil for his Daughter to meet deer hunting criteria of 'bigger than .224 caliber' and came up with an AR barrel chambered for 6mmx45. I spent $$$ trying to find a load that was suitable and after using it one season, the regulations were changed to allow .224 caliber. Now, that upper and all the brass I formed is sitting in a dark corner gathering dust--or maybe he sold it for a pittance.

It's not broken, that's the design.

hats off to savage for a unique design. That tail thing is actually forward of the setup. Apparently it aligns parts of the bolt mechanism together.
