223 Wylde Question

Not really a Ruger rifle, unless you count the trigger group, but a long gun question just the same. I built an AR with a 223 Wylde upper. My question is can I/should I shoot steel case ammo out of it? I have a bunch in .223 and 5.56 that I want to plink with but wasn’t sure if I would damage anything or be dealing with multiple stuck cases.

I have an AR chambered in 223 Wylde, too. I don't shoot steel cased ammo in any of my guns.

I’m not worried too much about the accuracy right now. I haven’t shot it yet since finishing it and want to make sure it functions and just get on paper. I have quite a few boxes of the stuff but wasn’t sure if I was asking for trouble by using it.

It certainly won't hurt the barrel or chamber if you use the steel case stuff for function and operation checks. The Wylde chamber is a compromise between a true 5.56 Nato and a .223 Rem chamber and allows both to work. The steel case ammo isn't the most accurate or best quality stuff but it won't do any harm.

I agree , steel cased ammo does not go through any of my guns, especially my .223 wylde, should've bought brass so you could reload and get the ultimate results with your barrel.

Thanks for the help. Yes it’s not my first choice but somebody gave me a half case of the stuff and it’s better than nothing as long as they don’t fireform and get stuck somehow.
