As a new .222 Rem. owner (a 1954 vintage Remington 722), I'd really like to know a little more about what you are asking. I have fired a box of factory rounds through my rifle and the brass is cleaned and ready to start the reloading process.

If you contact RCBS with your dimensions, and send them your die they will replace it with one that will work for you. I've had them re-cut seating dies, replace carbide dies, replace worn out parts etc. A polite call with a good explaniation,, will most likely get you what you need.

A small base die, sizes the brass a little more than a regular full length sizing die. Some rifles have tighter chambers than others, and a regular sizing die will not get the brass small enough for it to chamber. If you are shooting new brass, and in the same gun every time, chances are you would not need one.

Huntington Die Specialties doesn't list them, so I doubt they're made. May have been made at one time.

Was the barrel put on for you? Tight chamber may mean tight neck, which may require turning case necks to under SAAMI specs, to what the chamber needs. You really need to find the gunsmith who did the work and ask what chamber dimensions are.

Can't see any reason why you couldn't use a small-base .223 Remington F/L die* with the decapping rod and expander removed to bring the head of the case down. Then decap and size to suit using your .222 die...

*Can probably save yourself a lot of money by just ordering the die body from RCBS
