Managed to take a doe, 7 pt, and 8 pt in WV this year. Still working on a particular buck here in NC. He is elusive but I'm persistent and I have another month of deer season to work him. Took the 7 pt with a Ruger Alaskan 338 RCM and took the 8 with a Savage 110E 250 Savage Ackley Imp. Bullets were Hammer Hunter 175 gr and 75 gr Hammer Hunter respectively. More to come.

NICE!!!!!!

WV deer looking good there.

Since NC only allows (2) antlered deer,, you can go after the one you seek. I've already taken (1) of my NC bucks,, and today I allowed (3) bucks to walk,, awaiting a specific one.

The rut in the area of Georgia I hunt should be in "prime time" and I plan to be at deer camp Sunday after the nasty weather has passed to spend a week hoping to fill my two buck tags.

I will go back later in the month and hopefully put a couple of crop eating does in the freezer to keep the farmers happy.

Nice lineup of bucks. Those would be representative of north MO bucks, too. Our 'family group' has tagged 3 bucks and still holds 2 buck tags that can be used in the 'alternative methods' season 12/23/23-1/2/24. Sometimes that's good and other times not.

So far the only thing I have killed is feral hogs. A boar and a sow.

I was watching a cut milo field Thursday evening and 10 does feeding, plus a couple of spikes. Was hoping a shooter buck would check out the does. At 545 pm 4 does went on full alert staring into the woods. Instead of a buck entering the field, a sounder of hogs burst onto the scene and every deer left the field.

I took my frustration out on the biggest hog I could see.

The farmer wants all hogs shot on sight.

That boar was in the 300 pound range. One of his tusks was broken off at the gum, likely from fighting other boars.

I shot a cull buck with my 6.5 Grendel in the first 15 min of gun season. I made jerky out of everything but tenderloins and backstraps.
We get doe days Dec 18-31st. My daughter is a single mom with 3 boys so I will try to get her a fat doe to grind.
I may get to bowhunt for a big buck in the next couple of weeks if my health cooperates.

My 2023 deer season has been a bit 'lackluster'. Older Grandson was intending to hunt with me but studies got in the way so he's put hunting on hold. I tagged a good sized buck early on and shifted to meat hunting but even that has been blah due to warm weather. Hoping the late 'alternative methods' season brings colder weather allowing more flexibility to harvest and donate more does.

I may have closed the book on 2023 deer season unless someone asks for another meat deer. Our freezer is topped off, our neighbors have what they asked for, and DIL bought 1/2 a beef from her Dad that will fill their freezers. The weather has been terrible for hunting and/or meat quality and it costs me $15 in gas to donate to 'Share the Harvest' so I think I'm done.
I fired 9 shots bagging 6 deer, a coyote, and a bobcat. One bullet struck a tree branch and missed it's intended target. The only 'trailing' resulted from the SigSauer bullet failure--the others were DRT or within sight from the firing position. I'm pretty satisfied with that. :)

Sorry to hear about the poor weather Buck. GA has been about normal, a few frosty mornings, including today, but no weather to let deer hang to age. One of my buddies shot a buck late one evening and it was cold enough to field dress and hang the deer to be skinned and de-boned the next day after the morning hunt.

Due to CWD concerns we can no longer take quartered deer back to FL

I am adding this doe to my freezer. Corn, milo and peanuts fatten deer quite well.

Our season has a couple more days.

Yet,, this afternoon, about 5 pm,, as I was almost home,, I spotted a deer in a larger field about 150 yds away. I pulled my truck over,, as I KNEW it was a good buck. I grabbed my binos,, and my buddy & I were able to watch a big horned, heavy 10 pointer with good mass for over 10 minutes. He was still there when I finally pulled away. If I hadn't already tagged out,, My .45 Colt & I would have been trying to get to him. (And yes,, I know the owner of the field,, and can legally hunt it.) My buddy has tags,, but didn't feel comfortable trying to get it. So,, we just watched it. Bigger than the 9 pointer I'd been chasing. Gonna file that info for next season.

Well, I have enough meat now. Buck only for whatever time I get to hunt. I have the rest of today and a couple of sits the last weekend, the 13th and 14th.

But if a camp mate said he needed a doe, I would try to oblige.

I just saw a spike trailing a doe like a beagle tracking a rabbit. The peak rut may be over, but there is still some activity.
