I have not seen this posted here but I thought some of you would be interested in this news.

My local dealer has handled a salesman sample DA 22lr. he says it is SP101 based with a redesigned grip, 8 shot cylinder. He told me a model number but I can not recall it all. It started with KSP-

SHOT Show is right around the corner..... we'll see!

That would be good news though!

Interesting to see how many that clamored for one will put the $ up and buy what they said they would now.

At least we know it's stainless.

This is what I've been hoping they'd come out with. Eight shot cylinder sounds great! I wonder what they did with the grip. I will buy one if they offer a 3 to 3-1/2" barrel and nice sights. Looking forward to seeing it...

Think they're 4 inch. The one I heard rumors about was supposedly 4 inch, 8 shot.

Yes, I'll order one.

It should be a 10 shot cylinder like the S&W 617 even the Taurus model 94 is a 9 shot cylinder.

I use my 617 in bowling pin competition and have used the 9 shot taurus occasionally but an 8 shot revolver shooting against 10 shot autos would never work for me.

I have emailed Ruger 4 times over the last year asking for a 10 shot DA SS revolver.

Cylinder diameter might be too small to allow for 10 rounds I'll bet.

If it's not a medium frame, I don't know what will make it successful on the second try. What's the excitement about a small frame 8-shot revolver? I'm an old enough dog that it's hard for me to say 8-shooter. 6-shooter is much more poetic.

Kit guns are handy, but I don't know that the fairly robust SP in .22 fits that category.

I know from personal experience...It's too small for serious target work or small game hunting, and it's too clunky to be a kit gun, except maybe in the half-lug version.

So, that makes it an expensive plinker.

WAYNO.

I agree 100%. I owned a few of the SP's in 22lr over the years and the accuracy was terrible. I doubt the SP frame will be reworked for one caliber so it's my guess that it will be a lightened GP. I heard rumors about it also but nobody could be certain of the platform. I have my fingers crossed it's a GP with a 4" barrel.

I look forward to seeing this. I got a great deal on an old Smith model 17 last year. Now I want another .22 revolver. Someday I'll pick up a Bearcat. Almost bought a Single Six once, but hesitated too long.
I too would prefer a medium frame, I love my GP, but not sure I would want a .22 in such a heavy frame. The SP101 might work. Adjustable sights would be desirable.
I know several women that carry .22s for concealed carry, using Beretta or Taurus. Not my choice, but an 8 shot DA SP101 in .22 or .22mag would fit the bill for some. Heck that might not be a bad version in a LCR for some, especially with that trigger.
OK, count me interested.

I agree Wayne.

If true, and it is a medium frame, I'll be seriously looking at one!

Gee,, all these folks looking for Ruger to bring back the SP in 22 LR. Now,, when it MIGHT come to pass,, and well before we know for sure,, already folks are not happy with it if it ain't,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,???????????
Lighten up folks,, & realize Ruger has to be able to make a profit. They can not make every item every person wants,, and no matter what they build,, some folks will want it to be different.
I happen to have a SP-101 in 22 LR,, and I enjoy it,, as is.

I also own a SP in .22.

But...Since I'm wishing outloud, I've always wished for a quality medium-frame rimfire to compete with the 617. I think the Security Six would have been a great frame for this, but that possibility is twenty+ years too late.

I also know that there are lotsa folks that would like to have the SP101 in rimfire, again. If they get their wish, then that's great, too. Maybe times will be different, or expectations will be different, and maybe this time, sales will be successful.

I will still wish for a medium-frame rimfire, (even if) in addition to the SP in .22.

I didn't think my opinion would make me a bad person. :?

Some feel that a 22LR SP101 has little value. I disagree. I own one of the older SP101's in 22LR, with a full lug 4 inch barrel. I have shot this pistol a very large amount, practicing my shooting at defensive ranges. I have found that my accuracy and speed has increased greatly with my SP101 in 357, with 2.25 inch barrel.

The SP101 allows me to practice the fundamentals I read about and watch on wednesday night at the range with zero recoil. The zero recoil allows me to concentrate more on fundamentals, and the cost of 22 LR shells allows me to practice a lot more (Even though I reload 357 Mag for practice as well). This is exactly why the 1911 and Sig 22LR uppers sell so well, and also why I hear quiet a few glock guys asking for 22LR uppers as well.

So, The SP101 22LR gives me both a handgun that is near perfect for practicing defensive shooting fundamentals, and it makes a good kit gun as well. I am not really sure what else you could ask from the handgun.

Some folks would not be happy pulling hundred-dollar-bills out of Salma Hayek's panties.

I'd be happy putting $100 bills IN her panties!!!!!!!!!!!

I love the idea of a new .22lr DA revolver. I do not like the idea of a new $600 .22lr DA revolver (cost purely speculation on my part).

When the 22LR SP's first came out with only 6 shots and fixed sites, to me a J Frame sized Taurus made more sense; and for half the money.

The 4" adjustable site 8 shot SP seems a perfect size to me, unless they would bring back the Security Six frame which we know is out of the question.

The possibility of a GP sized 22LR seems remote and would likely be less popular than putting a .357 in the (N-Frame) sized Redhawk; overkill.

Seems like used .22LR SP's are in the $550-plus range and for that money you can get a brand new GP100. If this gun DOES come out, I think it'll be very popular now and will help reduce the prices of the used 6-shot models.

I would be, i just don't like plastic guns and rimfire SP's.

I've been wanting a DA .22 from Ruger for a long time, I'll be buying one however they choose to make it.

You may be right, Wayno. But I think it might be okay for accurate work if it had a 4" barrel, good sights, and a decent trigger.

I would love to have a S&W 317 kit gun for, well, my kit. I'd also love a 617 for target shooting. The trouble with both of these is they're so dang expensive. The 317 is so small and light it would be difficult to shoot well, and the 617 is too big to tote around in the mountains. I see a 3-1/2" SP-101 as a nice compromise between the two, and hopefully it would be more affordable.

It's a case of the existing options being narrowly focussed--they each do one thing very well. I like a tool that does many things, albeit none of them really well.

And then the question for us on the left coast will be weather or not they bother to send it to Ca. for testing and approval as a 'safe gun'.
None of the Taurus .22s are on 'the list'.
I'm still looking for a half lug SP101 in .22LR.
I have the 2" and the 4" full lug (and a Tarus 3" 9 shot picked up before 'the list' and a S&W 317 that fell in my lap for $200 :D ).
I'd like to see a .22mag option. Same with the Bearcat, for that matter.

Many folks say that the GP would be too large for a rimfire handgun but look at the Contender in a Super 14, chambered in 22lr with a scope. The GP, in my opinion would be the ultimate rimfire handgun in both the 22lr and the 22 magnum. It could even have the top rib milled for Ruger's rings like the SRH and the Hunters. The market has enough self defense handguns so another one by Ruger would simply be splitting hairs and market research has to highlight that when developing another revolver in 22lr. I doubt that Ruger executives would venture into development on something that already had it's place in the product line so an "out of the box" gun frame would make the most sense and certainly, the configuration would make the most sense by leaning towards hunters and target shooters.

You're exactly right. It is a compromise.

And that's where I tend to muddy the waters. I'm trying too hard to compare the SP to a J-Frame .22, or to a K-Frame .22. It doesn't compare to either, but I need to embrace the fact that it's not designed to compare or compete with either of them. When I accept the fact that it's a SP101 in .22, and nothing more, then it fits its own niche, very well.

Little value? Hmmmm, well, I suppose that might actually be true :) ... Look, we already have the Single Six and the smaller Bearcat from Ruger. The Frontier Scout from Colt.... Rough Rider from Heritage... Then there is the USFA 12 shooter for those you like a bigger full size .22. FA even has a very nice .22 .... I recently ran into a 8 shot case colored Uberti (I think that was the brand).... So now I have to ask.... how can you actually 'improve' on perfection with a DA sp-101 or gp-100??? . I mean single actions (and lever/bolt rifles) are just the perfect platform for the o' .22.... Just wonder'n :D . Just another point of view for the fun of it ;) . Who is Salma?
