1911, but not a Ruger, question.

Please don't kill me for asking about another brand, but I just gotta have one of these midget 1911's chambered .380. Can anyone tell me if the Armscor "Baby Rock" is the exact same gun as the Llama (MetroArms) "Micormax"--just 2 different labels? I have handled the Baby Rock and it seems, smooth, tight, straight and solid. Am curious if the Micromax is any better or worse.

btw, I posted here because the Ruger forum is the only shooting related site I chat at. All the others seem so full of hot smoke and BS I can never believe a word they post there. Ruger people seem reserved, knowledgeable, helpful and (usually) don't go around with a flamethrower.

Everything I can find says the Armscore will be better.

I have an Armscore .22TCM and it is reasonable. Not quite as accurate
as I would like (3 or so inches at 25 yards), but other than that does well.

Just out of curiosity, why the .380 in a 1911?
Since the MSRP on both .380s is about $450 range, you could save your
nickels and dimes for a while and get a 9mm 1911 that would be only a
tad larger, but with a significant performance increase (not to mention the
lower cost of 9mm ammo). In fact, you could pay for the difference in
cost of the pistol with the ammo cost savings in the first thousand or so
rounds.

Which ever way you go, have fun with it.

Pat, I am an old guy with too much time and money to spend on guns and shootin' stuff. The little 1911's appeal is more the novelty and fun factor than practical reasons. Yes, when I wanna shoot an autoloader on the cheap, it means 9mm anything and junk ammo. I can buy 9mm ammo cheaper now than I can 22's for my new 77/22 Magnum.

Please see PM sent regarding Great Guns Shooting range.

OK. Ruger has some nice ones and Kimber has the Stainless Pro Carry
for somewhere near $760 (plus tax, etc.)

I'll bet that the Pro Carry would be significantly more fun than a .380 in
a 1911 like pistol. I have one so my guess is a tad better than a SWAG.
One other item is that the Pro Carry in 9mm (alloy frame) has a
perceived recoil that is very similar to a steel 5" 1911 doing .45ACP.

You pays your money, you takes your choice.

P.S. The Pro Carry can be set up with a Kimber .22lr conversion,
IF .22lr ever gets back to a reasonable price.

Just a suggestion Wolfee. The Sig P 938 is very close to being a miniature 1911 as you can get less the grip safety. The P938 a 9mm and very compact. I've had one for 3yrs and it's my EDC gun. I carry it in a IWB and usually forget I even have it on. Take your time and handle several different guns before you make a final decision. If you're dead set on a 380 Sig has a smaller 380 the P238. My wife has one of those. Great guns and I highly recommend them.

I've owned, or at least got to shoot, all of 'em. But only a shrunk 1911 looks like a shrunk 1911. You guys are too practical. And probably too sensible.

Wolfee you are very fortunate to have owned or got to shoot all of 'em.
Whatever you decide on I wish you the best. We all have different tastes in what we want and like. My little Sig P 938 would probably be the last gun I'd ever consider selling. Actually I'd like it to be put in the pine box with me when they plant me in case Hell breaks loose
