I Have a Ruger 6707 SR1911 with a "NRA4-00XXX" serial number. Anybody have information why the unusual prefix differs from typical "670" prefixes. The hard plastic carrying case has an addition notation of: "Engineering Sample". Thanks for any insight on the non-typical prefix.

Ruger does special prefixes on special editions. Any chance it looks like this one? The one pictured is a Davidson Exclusive and denotes the NRA4 prefix. The "Engineering Sample" on the end makes it more interesting. I would send into Ruger and get a letter on it.

Ben Hammered, thanks for your reply and the suggestion to contact Ruger. My pistol is stainless and appears to be like the current model 6700, full size with the exception of the non-typical NRA4 serial number prefix, model number 6707, plus the "Engineering Sample" imprint on the carrying case identification label. A fellow posted online SR1911 model numbers that Ruger's model 6707 became the same firearm as the 6800 Talo offering but came up empty for a search for 6800 on Talo's website. Will follow up with Ruger.
Thanks again, Rodrick

I think you have just what the box end label says you have - an "engineering sample". An ordinary full size SR1911 with a "trial" or "sample" serial number to see how it would look and to receive permission from ATF and the folks ordering the special run. A unique one of one. Photos please!
I have not seen any SR1911 model numbers above 6799. They then went back to 6701 but with a "1" in front = 16701.

Terry T, thank you for your response and probable explanation. I have attached photos that likely support your assumptions related to the pistol. I have sent a request for authenticity to Ruger's Record Department which will most likely support your explanation. I didn't realize you were "the fellow" I mentioned in my reply to Ben Hammered, but thanks again for the listing of SR1911 models, much appreciated. See attached photos. Condition is excellent and presented as "new"/"unfired". Roderick
