Great book. Worth a look for you history buffs.
In one part George Washington sent a letter to his wife in Albany NY.
He wanted her to join him in New York City.
It took her TWO WEEKS to travel about 150 miles.

May have to check it out... side note... in reading the biography of Andrew Jackson... he decided to go from Western N.C. to Kentucky ... took him two months.... the reason was he had to go up the French Broad River and then down the Ohio.
