Just curious how those that have a .17 SS like 'em. Looked at a LNIB used one this evening and thought for a moment but wasn't sold on it. So how 'bout it...Who's got 'em and what's the experiences with 'em?

I am emotionally repressed and I must have been put on the bottle too soon as I have three of the 5.5-inch SS guns and I have not shot any of them yet. Two of them are consecutive KNR-5L-17s that I will be keeping unfired but the third is the KNR-5-17 and I want to shoot it soon but right before deer season I don't want to tie up a spot at the range when there are so many hunters trying to sight in their new guns to go deer hunting this weekend (why do they always wait til the two days before season to check their guns and stand in line?).

These guns really do handle nice!

I bought a KNR-5-17 and shot it twice. It was very accurate, nicely finished, and handled nicely too. However, I just did not enjoy shooting it like a 22 mag, so I sold it.

It was not the revolver but the caliber that did not interest me. It seemed to me to have just about the same felt recoil as a 22 LR, but the cost of 22 mag. I just did not see the need for it........the caliber that is. I have a Single Six convertible that I enjoy shooting very much with both the 22 and 22 mags.

I do think I am the exception to the rule however. Most seem to really like the caliber and the gun. My advice would be to buy one and find out for yourself!

I recently purchased a Single Six Huntar (7 1/2" barrel) in 17HMR. With open sights, I am about as accurate with it as I am with my other Single Sixes. I bought the Hunter model as I plan to put a scope on it (the Hunter comes with scope rings). Once scoped, I believe I will be much more accurate with it. I plan on using it to hunt groundhogs up to 100 yards. It can get expensive if you use it for plinking

I wont be able to pick mine up until next Wednesday. Hunter model in 17 HMR only. hopefully I can shoot it that afternoon and give a report. going to start out with open sights, but will scope it soon.

I'd go for a Hunter if one presented itself for decent $. I can pretty much guarantee it'd be Bisley-ized though. :)

I have a shooter 17 Hunter and it is quite accurate and I had hopes of using it on groundhogs this summer but with a new baby that didn't work.

I just picked up a NIB cleanup that I had my dealer order from Willams that was $450 plus tax. That one is going in the safe with the rest of my Hunter colletion and I am thinking about converting my shooter to a Bisley now that I have a NIB example for the collection.

As for the ammo cost, sure more then a 22lr but way less then 9mm or 38 so not a bad choice and I can find 17hmr ammo lots of places that don't seem to have much else.

I have been trying to decide if I want one of the 6.5 stainless 17s as I have a prelock walnut 17 that I have kept unfired as the prices on them started climbing. I expect I could trade and get the stainless for the blued prelock.

What I need now is a 77/17.

There is a NIB 17 HMR Single Six Hunter on Gunbroker for $469. I bought one off this individual and had a good experience. I have'nt seen too many of these NIB for sale. My local gunshop had one on GB about two months ago and it ended up bringing $650!

That is a good point, right now the 17hmr hunters can be found as williams just sold a couple hundred of them. In the future, these will either become difficult to find or Ruger will make more but buying one at normal cost is always nice and the 17hmr does like the longer barrel and it shoots flat enough to deserve the scope.

I am with you, I would rather have a .22 magnum, bigger bullet and not much slower either. And for just target practice you can get fairly cheap .22 Mag ammo for $70 for $500.

I picked mine up yesterday. Unfortunately it was raining, and I didn't get to shoot it. I was surprised at the sights. They are like the set they used to offer for the Redhawk with the V-rear sight and gold bead front sight. Have company all weekend, so maybe Monday I can get out and play.

I'm thinking I might pass on it for now anyways. Of course, I think I'm heading to the shop tomorrow so I might be tempted as a "it's in front of me, why not impulse thing"

I doubt they have any left myself.

Yea, when I bought mine it was posted they only had a couple left and that was in October. The original post was here:

I managed to get one of the 45 Hunter cleanups as well as a NIB 17 HMR Hunter out of those and boy do I wish I had some more funds as there were several more on that list that was posted in that thread I would have like to added too.

This guy must have several of them. The one you listed is sold and I just bought the 2nd one from him.

Hope it shoots...

I amn going with the oppinion that this was an auction where you had two guys that really wanted the revolver and this was a very isolated bidding war at least at this time...

There is no way that gun is worth that much money! A 45 Colt Bisley Hunter could possibly be worth close to that but those two bidders got caught up in the heat of the moment and that gun sold for about 50% more then it was worth today.

Oh well, I have been there and done that too on occasion.

I bought the one before that for about 250.00 less. Then the seller made me a deal on the 2 that are consecutive sn. I bought them for less each than the one I bought at auction. Maybe they aren't worth it but I have blown a lot more money on worse things.

I noticed sports south has a 6.5 stainless that they have labeled LTD with red ruger medallions are these special runs or dealer exclusives? wondering if they will be a collectors item?

I ordered one today from Davidsons, dealer cost was $419.00. I believe they had 7 left. :D
