Yesterday, I bought a Kimber Eclipse Custom II 10mm. I am bound AND determined to find a 10mm 1911 that meets my needs. I have owned 5 other 10mm's with unsatisfactory "user" results. S&W 1009, 1066, 1076; Colt Delta Elite; and Glock 20. I hope the Eclipse "makes my day". 6th time the charm? We shall see... :D

FRANKLY...I would not be surprised to see the Kimber 10MM to be at the bottom of that list eventually, sad to say. Best of luck to you, Sir.

the new Dan Wesson 'Silverback' is out in 10MM and runs around $1800.........heard good things , so far...............................10mm has been "nasty" in most of the guns ,I remember the early Colts, beat the snot out of them...my friend Gary Johnson used to write about them when he worked for the Shaker Hts PD,retired and wrote for Soldier Of Fortune magazine...........damn have not thought about him since he moved "out west".....miss him
 
Heliman, take a look at the new Sigarms P220 pistols now in 10MM. I just purchased a P220 SAO Target Model in 10MM and it is by far, the finest made pistol I have ever owned. I only have only fired it twice wit Sig factory ammo and found it to be extremely accurate with this potent round. As far as 10's go, you won't have to look much further for a keeper buying a Sig P220.
 
I have a Kimber custom in 10mm and the only problem I've had was a weak
recoil spring (empty would clear 10-15 feet over my right shoulder). Changed
that out and have not had any other problems.

I also have a Smith 1006 that I would sell, if I could find someone willing
to pay $5K for it. Somehow I think I'll have it for quite a while. :roll:
(Less perceived recoil than a .45ACP in a 5" 1911)

The Smiths platform wasn't comfortable to my hand and had a few mechanical issues; failures to feed/eject. The Glock I didn't trust after a case failure and also didn't fit me well. I liked the Delta Elite until a heavier load caused a case failure because of the unsupported chamber.
 
I looked at a new SIG 220 in 10mm and I was impressed. It had adjustable sights and was a single action and the fit and finish was well nice. I also have a Delta Gold Cup and a DW in 10mm in 1911 land and they are both great. Anyway hope your Kimber makes you happy.
 
In a prior post here I mentioned buying a Sig P220 SAO. I did try both models with the DA/SA and the SAO triggers and found the SAO model to have a much better trigger pull than the other model. It's SA pull was both lighter and crisper and just felt better to me being a 1911 fan. It also has an low mounted adjustable rear sight with a front night sight. I made my choice on those factors, plus the rosewood grips were an added bonus.

They also have one in DA/SA with fixed night sights.
Feels just a tad narrow, but other than that, typical Sig.

The best 10mm I shot was a Kimber Stainles 2-10...

Had a few hiccups on ammo. Accuracy was GREAT, but couldn't get through an entire magazine...

Then I shot the Sig P220 Stainless Elite Ten... Holy crap! Amazing reliability and accuracy.

Good luck on the Kimber. I truly hope it runs better than the one I tried.

Love my P220SL and P227 Tac.

I just shot the new P220 Stainless Elite Ten... Holy cow. Amazing. Don't have the $$$ to fork over at the moment. Just bought my wife a new 9mm. (P229 Stainless Elite) but when I look at replacing the Glock 20, this will be the gun!

The best or maybe the worst of this is that I bought the Eclipse Sunday and Wednesday my dealer called and said the Kimber Stainless Target 10mm I ordered 4 months ago arrived. I picked it up yesterday. I am looking forward to shooting both and anticipating both will perform fine. :D

lol. I see you have experienced the affordable reliability and accuracy of Sig products in the past. It "does" get pretty boring at times, LOL
 
I really like the 10 mm. I've had 2 of the G 20s both were excellent guns but regardless of how hard I tried I could not warm up to the size of them, I had one of the Dan Wesson Razorbacks and liked everything about it I just wasn't smart enough to keep it. I may try a 4th gen G 29 or possibly a S/A Sig.

So, when or if Ruger were to chamber their 1911 in 10mm, I guess it would be the best thing since sliced bread...... :roll:

I have owned "pretty" Kimber 1911's for many years. All I can say is that for the most part they are reliable, accurate, and well made. Of course, this is only MY long experience...... Heck I am probably the exception.... :wink:

Accuracy is ALWAYS #1 in my requirements, but the outstanding machining and fit and finish is over the top compared to lower level off the shelf guns. Reliability is always a given ... But I still like the trigger and ergonomics of my CZ75's better.

Kimber is one I haven't owned. The best 10mm autos I've actually owned were easily the CZ 75 (EAA Witness) and 1006. Both gave coffee-cup accuracy out to 50 yds from sandbags. Fully capable of whitetail headshots from a treestand.
I know grip is totally different with the 10mm in the 1911 frame from experimenting with the Delta eons ago. Good luck with the new shooter!

Will Ruger make a 10mm hunting 1911? I've I asked more than once around, I'm not holding my breath. :roll:

Today, I took the 10mm 1911 Kimbers out to the range. I hate to disappoint the Kimber bashers, but both functioned flawlessly and were accurate right out of the box. I was pressed for time so only fired 32 rounds each from the Stainless Target and the Eclipse. I actually like the Eclipse a little better because of the sights. We shall see going forward, but initially I am happy. :D
