10/22 Magnum

Hi all. Years ago I bought a 10/22 magnum, put about 100 flawless rounds through it and it has sat in the back of the safe since. The rifle was brought up in conversation with a friend that works at a gun shop. He told me the 10/22 magnum is prone to breaking and Ruger won't fix them. I have been unable to find out where the weak point is and if it's able to be upgraded. Does anyone have any experience with these? What brakes in them? Can they be made reliable? And no I don't want to sell it :D. Thanks

10-22 magnums have become rather valuableThey were only made for a few years. Ruger had a few issues with them. Hang on to yours. Check www.gunbroker.com for values.

This one deserves to be a safe Queen. The extractors were the weak point. The early guns had single extractors and the later ones were double. They have been selling in the $700-900 range. Boxes a plus $.

The most desirable are the single extrator {original version} gun. Remove the ruger extractor and replace it with a Volquarson or other extractor. It should take about 3 minutes. If you have a double extractor do the same thing but also remove the inner extractor and do not replace it. You can find out more info at rimfirecental.com

Thanks for the input guys. I will give volquarson a call. I had a bad shoulder injury so the big bores are being moved to the back of the safe for awhile. Gonna have to play with the little guns.

Because its not a Ruger?
And there were a few lucky people on Gunbroker about a year ago (3 or 4) that saw their Ruger 10/22 Magnums sell in the 3K to 4K range. Gotta admit, somebody really had some pucker factor there...but would anybody get that excited about something made by Magnum Research??
