Do we need anti drone weaponry now?

I am thinking a 3 1/2" mag 12ga autoloader goose gun with extended mag tube and a bunch of steel goose loads might be a smart grab.
I figure at some point terrorists will deploy little buzz bombs against us.

Knew a guy in the computer industry years ago, who asked me if I had ever seen anything about using microwave oven parts to cobble together an "anti-drone ray gun". I (truthfully) answered "No" - that kind of thing is way, WAY past my pay-grade & skill level (and maybe/probably illegal)...

A better solution would be anti-terrorist weaponry.

Id rather have lead 4s than steel.

Oh, your thinking little drones. Small child's play drones.
Real drones would never be close enough for buckshot and would be shooting something MUCH larger back at you.

Reading though this thread, I'm reminded of two rather rhetorical questions being chanted in Revelation 13:4 by those who are seen worshiping the beast :

......"Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him?".....

The implication being that no one can stand against the havoc being brought against them.
Of course, the real answer comes along later. No mention of shotguns or microwaves though...

This. Although I disagree about the bunkers unless they’re nuke carrying drones which they won’t be.

Unless you get lucky and get an amateur at very close range non maneuvering. And then I’d want lead, tungsten, or bismuth shot.

300 feet isn’t all that high and is 100 yards straight up.

Even at half that you’re still 50 yards pretty much straight up.

So while it’s worth a shot for a very close in drone they won’t be there for much time.

Terrorists would use one, and you're not going to have any warning to get ready to try to take down one.

The only people who could use swarms for seek-and-destroy would be the/a government, because it takes satellite and a massive organization to coordinate.

Y'all know for the last couple of years part of my job was actually flying a drone?
I have a un-manned aircraft pilots license with the FAA.

I'm sure Russia would like to stop those drones with a simple shotgun blast. BUT NO! Ukraine has taken battle drones to a whole new level.

I have a Mossberg Maverick 12ga that I converted to accept 10 round mags for such occasions. Scares the hell out of some people (much like an AR).

Much of this thread had me chuckling....then it dawned on me some folks might actually be serious

I kept envisioning a lot of wounded waterfowl I've seen from the idiots "sky busting" when the birds were too high/far out. Especially when the 3.5 came about.....everyone thought it was going to take down airplanes....all they did was cripple a lot of birds.

Enemy drones? If they managed to get overhead of us there are much bigger problems and we need to be much better armed than a shotgun

One of my funniest destroyed drones stories: When I coached youth football (this was 8th grade "Varsity") there was a parent who kept bringing his annoying drone to practices. It was a huge distraction. He was also a very annoying parent. Thought his kid was a star. His kid was lazy, slow, no drive and sucked. He only got minimal play time and that was if we had a large lead. The guy was always trying to say he could be an asset to us. However he only flew it when his kid was on the field. We kept telling him the drone was just a distraction to the players. It was brought up at the board meeting to research how to deal with it and involve the Borough Office. Head Coach had enough one practice and stopped practice. Huddled all the coaches. Decided we were going to scrimmage. First offense and second offense rotating against "meat squad" defense as we called them. We could easily move the ball downfield. When the line of scrimmage was close to where the guy was sitting along the sideline, Coach huddled the Asst Coaches. Switch first offense with "meat squad" offensive with second offensive positions rotating, and put in first defense. I was Offensive Line Coach. Coach told me to rotate the Guards. That put the guys Son on sideline. So the drone landed and the guy put it in a wagon. Couple plays up middle of course was a disaster. Ball was at hash mark closest to sideline where the guy's chair/wagon was. Coach called "Jail Break". Which is the QB faking handoff and rolling out to the sideline. First read is the slot receiver. If not available tuck ball and go, second read is marker. But normally called when close to first down marker. The QB looked baffled, "Now?" and correctly stated there's no marker. Coach said "use that guys wagon as a marker". Coach also had Defensive Coordinator call "Ooga Shocka"...which is an all out blitz aside from the Safety. Snap of ball that QB was running for his life.....directly towards the "marker" with the first defense on him. They all came to a crash right beside the guy who rolled out of his chair to cover the wagon/drone He couldn't get it out of the way fast enough. He ended up breaking his own drone. Again brought up at Board with School Admin present. Result was guy received a warning from Board for safety as he was not sitting in parent safety zone. School Admin advised he was not violating FAA law but was restricted from using on school grounds for safety reasons and if he continued local authorities/Borough PD would handle it. Now and then we still get together for a couple beers in town. That story always comes up and brings much laughter. Heck it's been 8yrs. That second offense QB ended up being a heck of a player in High School. He was home a couple months back and happened to be in the same pub. "Hey Coach D, remember the so and so's Dad's drone?"...I bought him a draft and we had a laugh. Time flies...

I kind of look at drones as steerable artillery. Once airborne they are fairly hard to stop.

The Blitz proved it's really really hard to shoot down enough of a swarm to have any significant impact.

The way to stop an airborne attack is to take out the control network. The Blitz didn't end until the allies had destroyed enough airfields and manufacturing to end it. The bombing of Germany and Japan only stopped with unconditional surrender. Because those two couldn't destroy the source of the raids.

I'll just take off my clothes... drones will leave real fast........

Interesting thought. With the advancement of drones in the Ukraine-Russia conflict, I'm sure that the US military has a ton of ‘toys’ that they would use against these. Again, in a couple of years, it’ll be something else to worry about on the battlefield.

I have drone nets for the little drones. Used twice, worked OK. Bigger? We have been plagued by them in NJ. The .22/250 would reach them, but probably would do no more than put a hole through them. I tried a Wicked laser ( the toy that isn't one) once. I am sure it would take out it's optics, but the thing moved away pretty quick. May have gotten a flash. Who knows?

The "battlefield" is planet Earth including the local space between the Earth and Moon and Cyberspace right now, not "in a couple of years". Not that long ago, it was said that you should never let your opponent choose the battlefield, but we seem to have tossed that concept into the dustbin of history. Something else we can thank technology for.
