Tonight Florida executed a man that killed an infant and tossed it into a pond 30 years ago.

Protesters gathered at the prison and stated that he shouldn't be executed since he wasn't the same man he was 30 years ago.

The childs mother stated that she wanted the penalty served for her daughter that hadn't had a chance to live for the 30 years she waited.

The Lawyers argued that he was allergic to the drugs administered during a lethal injection

Should Florida have retired "Old Sparky" or just let him go since he rehabilitated so well over the last 30 years incarcerated?

I have some very good friends who are adamantly against the death penalty. I will fully agree with them that we have a flawed legal system and some folks on death row should not be there... but I also know there are some folks in prison and also free that I would have no hesitation in taking behind the barn and putting one round in their head.

I used to be a proponent of the death penalty but I have changed my mind. Life without the possibility of parole is much cheaper than lining the pockets of the lawyers on both sides of the crime.
The case of the scumbag who killed 10 people and wounded 3 in Buffalo NY on May 14th 2022 is a prime example. The piece of crap intentionally targeted black people and killed innocent people who were just doing their shopping.
He has been sentenced to life without the possibility of parole but now they are arguing a Federal death penalty case.... Throw him in general population in Attica and his life sentence will be about 3 weeks. It would be a lot cheaper than paying all the lawyers involved.

That has to be the stupidest argument I have ever heard.
Whether they know it or not , drugs administered for lethal injections have adverse reactions to anyone they have ever been given too.

that's kind of like I've heard that a doctor has to examine them before they are executed to make sure they are fit to be killed.
they could not do lethal injections here in S.C. for a year or two, not sure if they can now or not, it seems the papers said it was because they could not get the combination of drugs... something to do with the legality of prescribing them for this for a human... nobody it seems had the intelligence to just call a vet. this is how I think it works and how the vet put down our Ausiedoodle... gave her a shot that put her in a deep sleep then after a minute gave her a shot that stopped her heart.. no discomfort at all.

I've often thought that the guilty should restrained in a chair and the aggrieved family could beat them to death with implements of their choice. Just a thought.

Yep, the convicted murderer should be turned over to the family, or a family designee, for ten minutes then determine if it is necessary to follow through with the execution.

I used to be very pro death penalty but recently I've seen a number of videos of people being arrested and jailed that were obviously innocent, of officers fabricating and/or ignoring evidence, of prosecutorial misconduct, and just plain lying. Not in the same league as murder and such, but a whole bunch of people have been arrested for "sober DUI" and some of the police continue to say they're guilty even after they have been proven clean/sober. All of that makes me very hesitant to believe that government, the police and the justice system can be trusted to get it right. Or even to try to get it right.

Of course then there are the cases where there is videotape or some kind of other unassailable evidence which makes me think, what are we waiting for, string em up.

I can go either way. Life in a prison is not good and makes the person suffer daily for the rest of their life. Most would be better off dead but they're too cowardly to kill themselves. The " problem" that the death penalty has costing too much money can and should be fixed however. In my perfect world if you were sentenced to death the court system would expedite your appeals on a strict calendar requiring the sentence to be carried out within 18 months.

That’s why I think the criteria should be “100% no doubt at all”.

Not all people can be "rehabilitated". Some people are just evil and need to be terminated/ removed from society.

this bs over the chemicals is weird.... he's allergic to the stuff that's going to kill him?? only a liberal could make that an argument.... all you need is an empty syringe... once that air bubble hits the heart... they are toast.... syringe is reusable and the air is free....
that's why air nozzles have those holes in the side... so people will have a harder time injecting a bubble of death into their veins...

Part of me believes that every consideration should be taken to ensure that the accused actually committed the crime. Nowadays how many innocent folks have been released since DNA testing has proven their innocence? Yet I'm this case he actually ended up telling the Law which pond he tossed the childs body in. Once the law recovered the cadaver, the child had three skull fractures from at least 3 separate strikes. So thirty years? Nope, Old Sparky, flip the switch and let him twitch.

I used to be all about the death penalty as well, but I think in cases where there is doubt, they should be sentenced to life in prison. But when there is no doubt, I do not see where a trial is even necessary. Flip the switch and let them twitch.

30 years to carry out the sentence is at least 29 1/2 years too late. Ya know the old saying, "Justice delayed is justice denied." I still don't understand this BS with the lethal injections. I'm gonna bet almost all of us here have, at one time or another, had surgery under general anesthesia. Ya know, they give you the happy juice in the IV and tell you to count backward from 100. Has anybody ever made it past 85? And then you wake up in recovery with no recollection of anything after saying 85 (or whatever number you made it to). Do you know why you have an anesthesiologist to administer the anesthesia? It's so you DON'T DIE! I can't see why they just can't shoot the dirtbags up with the same stuff except just massively OD them, and they die due to the OD. Instead, they have some concoction that they seem to have all kinds of problems with, as exemplified here. As an alternative, the administration of 5 or 6 small lead projectiles at 2500 fps or so is usually instantly effective for execution, as long as at least a couple of the six people administering them are competent at that administration.

Last month I had an anesthesia consultation for my upcoming cancer surgery on June 17th.
I point blank asked the anesthesiologist about lethal injection for capital punishment. He told me that it's just like giving someone anesthesia for surgery except that they are given a massive dose of the medication and something to stop the heart. All they do is go to sleep and wake up on the other side of the rainbow.
Their final destination is decided by someone way above my pay grade..

In my humble opinion if you murder a an infant or small child, the convict needs to be taken into a Cessna 180, to 10,000 feet altitude. a side door opened and pushed out into the wild blue yonder. Cheap and effective. and it gives the convict about 1 minute to get right with his Maker. Maybe I was raised by an old time cotton farmer , but i think public executions will stop a lot of crime. We need to bring back the pillory.

Justice is best served piping hot.

I know a lot of Americans are glad we have our system of coddling criminals. The result of this is rampant crime with no fear of the consequences.

I prefer the system in Singapore. Canings, prison, and execution are applied without years of litigation. The result is crime is almost nonexistent.

The people who are soft on crime like to say "What if it was you who was wrongly convicted? You'd feel differently then." Well, they are wrong. If I were to be wrongly executed, but society was peaceful and free of crime, my death would be worth it.

I just don't see many people willing to die for the good of society since WWII ended. We're in the age of selfishness.

Laws are no more than locks which merely keep honest people honest. Laws control the masses since they rarely control criminals. Problem is that law abiding people used to greatly outnumber criminals, but in today's world that's hardly the case anymore, and the scale of numbers are going the other direction very fast . . . . . .

I disagree with many of you who want to dispose of the person with pain.... I understand where you are coming from but the reality is lethal injection is best....I guess it is pretty boring for the witnesses though... I suspect 'ol sparkie was a bit more memorable. The problem is these people spending decades waiting... I have friends who are lawyers and I know they are needed but there lies the problem... I'll give my latest true joke... the bill board industry would no longer exist if it was not for lawyers.....
