You Tube has a number of videos depicting German occupatioal forces executing civilians in occupied countries. These are fictional and depict civilian resistance figters coming to the rescue at the last minute, completely mowing down the German soldiers. It didn't turn out this way.

I was in the Army in 1956 taking basic training. In my cycle, there was a Dutch immigrant, a draftee. He was living in the Netherlands during World War II. On night his father, mother and sister were herded into the street in front of their house and executed. Before his eys, they were made to kneel and the each shot in the bsck of the head by an officer.

This man was an outstanding trainee until Rifle Qualifications. With the sound of the first shot, he broke down sobbing and collapsed. He was not a conciousencious objector. Some changes were made, he was to stay in the Army and served, so I heard, as a Chaplin's Assistant.

And, during our basic training, there was an NCO who was a WW II German army combat veteran. He was not a cadre but supply sergeant, so he had little contact with the trainees. But the cmpany cmmander saw to it the two were kept at a distance from each other. The NCO was non-repentant.

After the word of Malmady spread Dad's unit quit taking SS prisoners. After Buchenwald they pretty much quit taking prisoners.
BOB: I have heard stories like that many times of the ((( NON- REPENTANT ))) attitudes and deep seated commonly held believes that the Germans were right in WW11. From very good friends of mine that were assigned to post WW11 Germany. These types of attitudes were also very commonly held and still are in many South American Country's. I can not even began to understand this. But I guess true evil & hate lasts along time.

Bob. If you are interested the author Ian Kershaw has several books worth your time.
I can only read a few chapters at a time before I switch off to other subjects.
In several places they show translated official documents from camp commanders asking for help from their superiors.
One was for fresh troops because carrying dead jews was very physically demanding and his troops were exhausted.
Another commander was asking for permission to move camp because the extreme amount of dead bodies were contaminating the water table and troops would not drink water.
Truly beyond comprehension.

A friend of mine who has been gone for many years was involved in cleaning up the Malmedy Massacre. It was something that haunted him for the rest of his life. He was in a small unit of Engineers that stopped the Germans during the Battle of the Bulge by blowing up the bridges to prevent the Panzers from advancing.

I also had a teacher who was involved in liberating Dachau. He had nightmares for the rest of his life as well. I'm sure that there were a lot of people who were deeply disturbed by what they saw.

When General Eisenhower was shown the Concentration Camps he made sure that as much of it as possible was documented because he said in 50 years some bastard will deny that it ever happened.

My Dad was a US Army MAAG advisor to Generalissimo Chiang Kai Shek's Nationalist army when we were stationed in Taiwan 1957-59.
During large scale war games on the beachfront he was observing with other American officers, the "invasion" exercise apparently was too realistic for several of the Nationalist conscripts who thought the Chicoms were actually coming ashore.
Three of them were so scared, they threw down their weapons and ran out of their defensive positions to surrender to the "commie invaders".
The Nationalist brass were so embarrassed about this "loss of face" display of cowardice, the 3 men were immediately shot dead in front of the observers.

Back in the late 1970's i had occasion to become acquainted with a Russian couple who were allowed to leave the Soviet Union and move to the US. (He was ill and was of no further use to the Soviets). The wife spoke absolutely flawless English without a hint of accent. I asked her about that and she said she had been an English teacher in the USSR. Anyway, as a child she had been shipped from her village along with the other children to east of the Caucasus. When she was able to go back her village she found out that the Germans had come through and killed everyone in the village. Their bodies were thrown into the well to poison it. Over 150 people were there.
