Hi i recently purchased a Ruger new model 45 Colt Blackwak in 7 1/2 inch (2024) that comes with aluminium frames ,can i load that gun with 250 gns bullet at 1300/ 1440 ft/s in order to obtain 1000 ft ,lbs of energy.
Thanks

Your gun does not have an aluminum main frame, but the grip frame is aluminum and has no bearing on the gun's strength.

Ruger recommends the use of only "standard" SAAMI-rated loads and there are none listed for +P in .45 Colt.

SAAMI shows 185gr bullets at 1150 ft/sec and 200gr bullets at 1120 ft/sec as OK but does not give the load recipes.

The fastest 250gr bullets SAAMI shows are only 900ft/sec.

None exceed 14,000 PSI average pressure. :)

yes off course is not all the frame in aluminium is the part that hold the grip you are right, the question is because i saw a couple of videos in you tube ,with charge og 315gns hard cast bullet at 1250 ftand up obviuosly exedding SAAMI limits FOR that caliber.
Welcome to the forum.
I edited your Location to remove your street address and apartment number. THANKS

I load 315gr swc to 1175fps from a 4-5/8" barrel 6-shot factory cylinder Blackhawk using published loads. With the Blackhawk,FA 83, Redhawk and BFR able to handle heavier loads than 100+ year old Colts, many load manuals give them their own section where the pressures are closer to 30,000psi versus the 15,000 the old peacemaker and clones are limited to.

Yes, there are many loads published that far exceed the old Colt .45 SAAMI ratings. Few, if any of these will acknowledge their chamber pressures.

From the Ruger owner's manual for the Blackhawks . . .

"AMMUNITION (CARTRIDGES) NOTICEWE SPECIFICALLY DISCLAIM RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY DAMAGE OR INJURY WHATSOEVER OCCURRING IN CONNECTION WITH, OR AS THE RESULT OF, THE USE IN RUGER REVOLVERS OF FAULTY OR NONSTANDARD OR "REMANUFACTURED" OR HANDLOADED (RELOADED) AMMUNITION, OR OF CARTRIDGES OTHER THAN THOSE FOR WHICH THE FIREARM WAS ORIGINALLY CHAMBERED."

Good luck. ;)

Lawyer notices are in every owners manual of every gunmaker saying that same thing. Including Magnum Research and Freedom Arms, who chambers guns for cartridges that are not available from any factory, even though Freedom Arms had and may still have loading data on their website.

By the SAAMI says quote thing you are saying, then proven safe and factory approved ammunition from Garrett, Buffalo Bore, Arias, etc. isn't okay because it's loaded to the same 30,000psi as Ruger only ammo?

Have you ever actually opened a loading manual?

Why do you want 1000 ftlbs? Those energy numbers are meaningless when it comes to handgun performance.

I hunt hogs with bay dogs only ,no catch dogs,i hunt a lot of them whit and sw 629 4 inch 240 gns jps at 1350 ft ,but always like the ruger single action, when the hog us bayed by dogs a lot of energy is waht you need

A little hard to read the OP’s postings.
But the Ruger Blackhawk in .45 Colt can handle stiffer loads. As noted above, get the reloading manual that has a “Ruger/TC only “ section. You will be fine.
As for energy, it’s meaningless without accuracy.
I’m currently carrying a SA .45 Colt, loaded with a 280 cast slug, daily for bear. And we have some pretty big bears here in NC. 500 + pounds is not uncommon. My load is accurate but not near 1000 ft/lbs of energy.
I guarantee that if I put one in a bear, it’ll be the only one I’ll need.

tHANKS GURU.i will reload some cases and see what happened with the velocity

An old friend had a run-in with a brown bear while on a hunt in Alaska. Carrying a Ruger BH 4 5/8" 45LC. Had time to get off one shot with his rifle, drew the BH and emptied it into his head, said it looked like porkchops flying with every hit. Bear dropped in front of him. He still owns the OM BH. This was in the mid 80's.
I have a NM BH .45, and have loaded soke pretty hot loads, for property protection mainly. I enjoy shooting 250 grain lead swc at 850-900 fps. Rarely break out the hot stuff. If you have a repro .45LC, or an older Colt or S&W,
keep the hot loads well away from it. They are not meant to shoot hot loads. Read your load manual about Ruger only loads, and abide by it.

nothing really needs to be added to the discussion except this: the NM Blackhawk frame is built to withstand .44 Magnum pressures. The typical 45 Colt brass cases are not, however Starline lists their 45 Colt brass as tested to .44 Mag pressures.

Please do not construed this as encouragement to load to 44 Mag pressures willy nilly, you should work up loads slowly checking for problems.

I've been reloading all my ammo for about sixty years, using recipes from the big name manuals that comply with SAAMI. No problems whatsoever. 😁

As far as "the NM Blackhawk frame is built to withstand .44 Magnum pressures" goes, when I want .44 Magnum performance I load for and shoot my Super Blackhawk. ;)

Awesome pics

I noticed no vest on the pup.....did he take a tusk or is that blood from the hog?
That the second trip to that dog, usually catahoulas are bay dog but that dog are ver agressive with the hogs and then did a vest to protect more than the chest

After many years of hunting hogs and bear with dogs, I'd like to recommend not loading your 45 Colt all out. It will zip right through large hogs, possibly killing our wounding a dog on the other side.

My solution to the problem with pigs was loading a 357 magnum with semi-jacketed hollow points as the first two rounds. They tend to stay inside of the pig. The rest of the cylinder is loaded with soft points. They penetrate deeper once the pig is away from the dogs.

Not many hogs around here now, but we do hound hunt bear. Some are extremely large and will bay to fight rather than tree. For them I carry the 357 with cast 165gr hp loaded heavy.

I also carry a "stopping" revolver in the guise of a BFR 500 Linebaugh loaded with 490gr cast hollow points. They will not stop in a bear and have plenty of energy left to kill dogs on the other side. This is swapped for the 357 after I get to the bayed bear, but will be in my hand as I approach. It's stopped a couple that have charged my way. Your 45 with large hp's first up and solids behind it should work the same for hogs.

My dogs only bay tusky boars, sows and piglets i finish with a knife ,i hunt a lot big boars with sw 629 4 inch 44 magnum loading 240 jsp bullet in front od 21,5 gns of 2400 and all the bullet finish inside the body of the boars, but now i like the Blackhaw in 45 colt !!!!

Thems some big pigs, Charley. Where in Florida do you hunt?

I wanted to ask the same. I have a old Navy buddy who hunts hogs around northern Florida.....lives in Palatka.

Kicking myself for not taking up offers over the years to hunt hogs in FL and SC ....now it's a dim chance of that type of hunt.

That's why I ask for pics....I live vicariously through others pics now..... 🙄
