Here in central Texas I don't see many No. 1's. When Ruger/Lipsey's came out with a batch of No. 1's in .44 mag several years ago I figured if I wanted one I'd just have to pony up. It wasn't painless but looking back I'm glad I did.

Nice grab. I just purchased one today myself. Our new law requires I wait 72 hours to pick it up. I was surprised at how nice the wood was. Not quite as nice as yours though! Fit and finish overall was very nice. I paid MSRP for mine, but no regrets.

I usually remove the cross bolt safety on my Marlins and install the plug that looks like a screw on the right side.
However, this time I am trying the rubber "O" ring trick which really does't look too bad. I found that a #36 "O" ring seems to be just right. In the future I may still install the plug which I prefer.

Sold mine several years ago and have no regrets. I prefer 45C. BUT, if mine had looked like that, I'd still have it.
Seems like Marlin has improved their checkering too. The old marlin pressed in checkering was not worthy of the firearm IMHO.

The 44 mag is a much better round for lever rifle since you don't get all of the blow by that you get with the 45 Colt. 45 Colt was never made for rifles until SASS came along. For some reason the 45 Colt case has more clearance in the chamber than other rounds both in rifle and pistol. IMHO Yes I have loaded stout loads that are supposed to expand the case more NAAAAA, When shooting black powder it becomes a rear mess compared to a 44-40 or even 357.

I did the same on mine that had the cross bolt safeties but went with the saddle ring type. Turnbull makes one that is still a safety but looks like a screw. Needs a screwdriver to operate though.

As far as I know, the ones I am using were made by a retired machinist in Wisconsin. They were blued and came with an Allen wrench to fir a screw in the Marlin cross bolt safety system. He only charged $10 and when he went out of business, I bought all he had at that the time (about 10). I only have about 3 or 4 left. Got to stop giving them away when I sell these Marlins.

Just got back from my first trip to the range. Shot .44 Special and 44 Mag at 45 feet. Was shooting a little low but the sights were easy to adjust. Action is pretty stiff but it will loosen up. All in all, it is a keeper.

Oh be still my heart, beautiful rifle. Great buy.My dealer got the first one in from his distributor. He showed it to me yesterday and I foolishly walked out without it. Quoted me a price of only $1,000 which I thought was great.
Did not sleep last night especially after seeing the crooks on GunBroker and other sites for prices from $1,250 to $1,500.
What really kept me awake was the vision of this unbelievable beautiful stock. I did not see even one photo on line featuring a stock this nice. Ruger probably did not dare put a photo of this stock on their ad page for fear that everybody would want one.
Just tried some A-Zoom snap caps which loaded and fed like silk. Was thinking of maybe not shooting this but I am sure that feeling will go away.
